Medium Format Film Discussion and Photo Walk

The last Medium Format Meetup was a lot of fun and some of our members have requested we do it again, so...

Lets' get together and learn about shooting medium format film with (not surprisingly) medium format cameras. We'll take some time to go over some cameras (from the cheap to the somewhat pricey), film options (Black and White, Color, Chrome, 120/220), loading film, camera operation and film processing options. Then we'll take our cameras out for a walk and shoot some medium format film. If you do not own a medium format camera, do not despair as one will be available for you to use for the duration of the meetup.

***Important: If you have your own camera please bring it and at least one roll of film (if you have a camera and need film please let me know). If you do not have a medium format film camera then please let me know, when you sign up, so I can provide a camera and film. There will be an additional charge if I provide the film for you.

WELL I GOT A QUESTION... IF I CAN EXPLAIN CORRECTLY. i HAVE A 17-70MM LENS... WHEN I GO TO TAKE A PIC OF A LEAF ON THE GROUND AND SAY I HAVE IT AT 35MM AND POINT MY LENS DOWNWARD IT MOVES SLOWLY AS IF IT IS GOING TO A HIGHER mm or toward the 50mm mark to where i cant take the pic. Would something be loose on this lens to make it move like this?

Some zoom lenses tend to do that b/c of their own internal weight. Sometimes a wide rubber band over the zoom ring may help holding it in place.

Great group of photographers. It's always a pleasure shooting with all of you. Please remember to upload some shots once you get your film developed.

I don't have a medium format camera for the class today.

Saturday just tuned bad on me. If it is too late for a refund, so be it. If not, a refund would be welcome.

Hi Adam.. just so you know, I will bring my Holga 120N and two rolls of film. I'm interested in improving my Holga skills (previous tries not so successful). I'm also interested in experimenting with other medium format cameras that may be available. I'd be happy to pick up film or pay an extra charge on Saturday if that is easier for you. Please let me know. Thanks for hosting this, I'm looking forward to it!

I do have 2 rolls of 400 ISO film for the Holga. I don't have any film for any other camera though if there's one available for me to play with.

Looks like it will be good weather, I would say 100 speed film would be a good choice for any TLR, SLR, etc.

Arghh....guess I missed getting signed up in time. If it helps me getting a spot, I've got 3 MF cameras I can bring....one for me to wear, the others to share. :-) I've got a Pentax 6x7, Pentax 645 and Bronica ETRS (645 format)...all with a 2-3 lens choices. I'll probably keep the Pentax 645 for myself since I've not used it yet.

Hey, Terry, why don't you just come - I will shoot with one eye and one hand only and you can do the same so we can use one spot only ....

Maybe I'll just crash the party.....nothing to say I might just HAPPEN to be shooting in that area on that day and just happen to run into the group. :-)

Since we are using medium format, Adam, will you ensure that we can find medium subjects? Should we bring medium tripods and medium light meters? Will our outcome be medium cool?

    • David P.

With exposure times over six months, reciprocity becomes irrelevant.

Medium format is anything BUT mediocre David. :-)

    February 4, 2014

    • Dee G.

Here are the latest 220 offers from B&H - more than one single type: http://www.bhphotovid...

Still trying to locate B&W 220; wish me luck

      February 5, 2014

  • Dee G.

I'm not sure 220 is dying - actually some film only comes in 220 size, at least the last time I bought roll film (not so recent :)
