Macro/Closeup Shoot

Re-scheduling the rain out meetup last month.

We will meet at the nature center where you can get a hiking trail map and then I think I will let you pick a trail that you would like to shoot or we can decide as a group.  I'm open.

Here is a link to the map so you can look at it before we get together and you can look around the site.

As always remember to bring your tripod, small diffusers, small brush, tweezers for gently moving debris off your subject if necessary,  rain cover for light rain.

Make sure your battery is charged, your camera is zeroed out and you have an extra card for backup.

Very good cast of shooters, next time we should have a Q&A session to bring a wider depth of topics for discussing during Yummie Time

The meetup was excellent except for missing a couple of folks who arrived late and did not inquire at the Nature Center as to our route..

    March 28, 2014

  • Tom O.

I arrived 5 minutes after 10 AM and the group had left the meetup location. Didn't know which trail they took, so didn't chase after the group. Did see and chat with Dan and David but only took photos of Dan's dog.

Had a good hike just over a mile with some really nice like minded folks, Didn't see lots to shoot as it is still early in the season but now I can say I have been to McDowell Nature Preserve.

e had a wonderful morning on the Chestnut ridge trail, Didn't see lots to photograph but it was good to meet some new photography friends. Sorry we missed you Gwenn...The folks in the nature center could have possibly told you where we were as we took that trail on their suggestion.

lets play it by ear...... but we go as a group and should stay as a group, unless it is a quick in and out.......... I am planning some some Wetland Treks where we can all combine the best of both worlds... kayaking and photo shooting- this is the closest you will ever get to nature as the animals do NOT see us a humans........ Aquatic Centaurs they are most inquisitive, and I have had a family of river otters follow us and play while on the Landsford Canal run......

I was intrigued by this preserve, that I took a road trip to Staples and laminated one! I have never been to this spot and am excited, but then again shooting Macro with tripod, Focusing Rail, and my 5 lb rice bag requires a big dose of Humor...........

I always see these macro meetups and I'm never able to attend since I work during the day. Will there be an event like this maybe on the weekend in the future?

I will be filling in for Terri for this shoot. Look for me in a Black Honda ELEMENT with too many antennas. I have never been to this Nature Preserve so it will be a learning experience for all of us. My cell is[masked]-1702. Hope to see lots of folks there.

I am looking forward to this and if you spot me standing in the parking lot I will be out of my Element...

    March 21, 2014

  • Terie Christmas D.

Hey guys, I wanted to let you know that Edgar Payne will be standing in and hosting this event for me. I found out yesterday that an appointment that I have been waiting for for over a month was scheduled on this meetup date. I did not want to reschedule or cancel this outing so I ask Edgar if he would stand in for me. Edgar is a great macro/closeup photographer and will be able to help you with any questions you might have. He will meet you at the Nature Center Parking Lot and will be driving a Black Honda Element. You will recognize Edgar by his CNPA shirt. I really hate I will miss this as I was anxious to get out and do some closeup work. Can't wait to see your photos.

What is Macro vs Closeup will be interesting they both share the same in compo:
    1-Arrangement
    2- Definition
    3- Communication

The biggest problem that I have encountered so far (what very little I have done/played with macro shooting) is controlling my Focus & DOF. The Focus adjustments on the lenses are just not suited for that kind of work ...ie, they are not macro lenses (and w/o a macro rail for small adjustments...of course)! But..., I do like the flexibility that these options that I use give me , especially out-in-the-field (so-to-speak) when I am not intentionally planning to shoot a macro subject... a Close-Up Lens/Filter, an Extention Tube, and a Macro Coupler Ring...along w/my std lenses, all fit very compact into the bag w/o anything extra or special just for macro work. ...David

David you stated it splendidly... Close up and Macro are just degrees of obtaining results, and the bottom line is the happy smile on our faces........ see you then and both macro lens
