Sunday School: Sunday Morning Critiques

Feedback is a critical (pun intended) component in growing as a craftsman/woman or artist.  In the photographic world we refer to formal feedback as a critique.  I'm sure many of you have posted photos to various websites and groups only to hear everyone glow and sparkle over how much they love your pictures.  While that may be great for the ego it isn't necessarily productive for someone trying to get better at what they do.  We need constructive criticism in order to hone our skills.  To that end we have decided to start an ongoing critique session.  The Sunday Morning Critique will be held every other sunday morning in an effort to give people ongoing, helpful criticism so that they may improve their work.

While the object isn't to hurt people's feelings, sometimes objective comments can be taken wrong way.  Comments will always be kept honest, and helpful.  If you think that you trend toward the thin skinned then these events may not be for you.

I enjoyed the conversations very much. Thanks again for letting me in under short notice and poor grammar. Well done Scott.

Overall, excellent and very informative....probably need to regulate critique time for each photo so everyone that brought a photo can get critiqued properly...I felt bad for those that we didn't have time for. I thought the critiques were very balanced and Scott did a good job of keeping the comments on track to what was being evaluated.

Very informative and useful. Scott set good boundaries and created a positive environment. Critiques were supportive and encouraging. I was inspired by the variety of subject matter and the artistry of the photographers. We didn't get to my photo and some others but there is always a next time. Glad Scott announced that those of us who didn't get critiqued today will be first on the 30th if we attend that session. I'll be there!

Maybe it will rain...and the wait list will be activated? I'm not concerned with rain.

I'm wait listed for this meet up. The description says that they will be every other Sunday morning. Will there be separate postings for each Sunday morning critique? If so, when will the one for Mar 30th be posted? thanks

Sadly the meetup web site was messed up when I first saw the post, by the time it recovered from the DOS attack looks like all the slots were filled...maybe next time :-)

I would love to attend this event. I'm wondering if the images we would like critiqued should be printed or if we're sending files to an email for projection on a screen? How many images should we share?

Scott mentioned last night at meetup that either print or digital is fine and to bring just one image. With 15 people coming it will just barely give time to review one image each.

Wish I could attend, but this time of the year is very busy for me, looking forward to future events of this type
