Sunday School: Sunday Morning Critiques

Feedback is a critical (pun intended) component in growing as a craftsman/woman or artist.  In the photographic world we refer to formal feedback as a critique.  I'm sure many of you have posted photos to various websites and groups only to hear everyone glow and sparkle over how much they love your pictures.  While that may be great for the ego it isn't necessarily productive for someone trying to get better at what they do.  We need constructive criticism in order to hone our skills.  To that end we have decided to start an ongoing critique session.  The Sunday Morning Critique will be held as often as possible in an effort to give people ongoing, helpful criticism so that they may improve their work.

Photos can be brought in either print or digital format.  Prints should be large enough that we can all see gathered around a table.  Digital files must be in jpeg format and on a thumb drive or SD card.  There will not be web access for downloading.

While the object isn't to hurt people's feelings, sometimes objective comments can be taken wrong way.  Comments will always be kept honest, and helpful.  If you think that you trend toward the thin skinned then these events may not be for you.

Scott, is there any reason that my name and/or picture do not ever show up for the confirmations? Just wondering.

Folks, I had sent scott email that was not able to get my metallic images in time for this Critique ((=
My new windows 8 and Google did not allow me to properly interface with any meetups and finally got it working using Firefox and I am up and running.... So hopefully see you next Critique

How many images are going to be evaluated? Should I bring a couple on my thumb stick and you can get to as many as possible in the time that I am allowed?

Suzanne, though I'm speaking for Scott I've attending 2 critique sessions so far and we typically have time for one image per person. You're welcome to bring both, and decide on the fly which one the group will critique. See you tomorrow. :)

Scott, you mentioned that you might increase the time from 2 hours to 3 hours. On July 20th will the critique be 11a-1p or 11a-2p?

It's a popular program, and if the most recent session is any indication, it is very well handled with thoughtful, intelligent, focused criticism. I taught criticism for many years and my dissertation is in critical methodologies, and I can only rave about the professionalism of the leader.

One screen says that there are 7 slots available and when I signup for it this screen says that I am on a wait-list. Which screen is correct?

Maybe people signed up before you hit the button!! That's the only explanation I can think of!!

Man!! Missed again!! 20 days is a long time though!! I'll probably make it in the list this time!!
