It's that time of year for tripods, cable releases, and patriotism!  Join Member Dee George and others on the top of the parking deck to shoot the fireworks over Southpark's Symphony Park.

Bring your tripod and remote release if you have one.  Just about any type of lens can be used to shoot fireworks.  We'll meet on the top of the parking deck at 6pm.

It was a great pleasure to see my old friends and meet new members even in a very rainy evening, with lightning and thunderstorms. I would like to THANK Dee, not only for the champagne, but especially for never giving up or getting discouraged, and keeping us all with the hope that we would shoot the fireworks. And it really happened. I loved all the photos that have been published so far. Lots of creativity in a difficult working environment. Congratulations for the beautiful photos. Ahhh .. I thought I would improve this year, but I'll get good ones next year, if God allows me. LOL Have a wonderful day! :)

Next time we will be dispersing umbrellas instead of champagne ;)

Great experience -- except for the rain. But the umbrellas did make my foreground interesting! :)

Yes, I live near the mall and hear them at about 10:15.

Thanks to everyone who attended and mainly to the folks who endured the "Laundromat" so they could take some shots at the fireworks.

Word on the street is....about 10-15 minutes it's supposed to be moving out

Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night can stop the fireworks photographers....

This wasn't supposed to be a rain shoot was it?

  • Alex

I can try.....it's a small building and has just a few stories

    July 3

  • Rich G.

can somebody give me a description of the building I don't know where it is exactly I'm thinking of the parking lot and all I see is small garage

    July 3

  • Alex

You might even bring a lawn/folding chair to reserve a place.....a lot og folks are setting up chairs to watch

    July 3

  • Alex

FYI...if you park on P1 you can walk up the steps to the Village Tavern patio. A couple tripods are alrewdy set up.....earlier is better!

    July 3

  • Gerry H.

I am running a few min late

    July 3

  • Alex

Come and park early...there's Brio, the Terrace Cafe, the Village tavern where you wait for the sun (and heat) to go down

    July 3

  • Donna P

I don't think the fireworks start until sunset. Would it be OK to come around 8?

    July 2

    • Dee G.

They start around 8:30 only you may find it hard to park but sure, you can try to come later. We had something like little open air party last year so we'll do it again

      July 2

    • Suzanne

I read an article that said to come a couple of hours early to get a good location and bring a book.

Quick update on the weather: 53 % chance of thunderstorm expected so don't forget a stringed garbage bag (new one:) for covering your equipment

John Ahrens' Wednesday Noon Weathercast. . .50% thunderstorms forecasted for Thursday afternoon and evening is the latest I have heard.

    July 2

  • Rich G.

Will there be a last moment message sent to all pending weather forecasts? I know it's though to get one now, all the forecasters are giddy right now with impending doom for the Carolina's! Tough to get anything accurate for the CLT area.

Will I get laughed off the garage if my camera is a little lower end than an SLR?

    July 2

    • David

Alex, some Recommended Items & Camera Features (but you could try it w/o) are: 1) Tripod, 2) Cable/Remote Release and/or Camera Shutter Release Timer, 3) Camera capable of adjustable Shutter Speed Control or BULB setting (approx. range from 1/60sec to 4sec---some longer), 4) Camera Adjustable ISO settings, 5) use Manual Control. Here is a link for further info: (http://digital-photog...). Hope that helps-David

Looks like great fun, a good task for my lightning trigger. Too bad I'm teaching then. Have fun, all!

What time should I arrive to get a good spot?

    July 2

Can't predict it 100% but 6 PM should work

My calendar says sunset 8:42pm. Fireworks in most places usually about 30 minutes after that so the sky is dark. Do we need to be there at 6pm? Party on the roof?
Was recently asked to leave a parking structure because permission acquired ahead of time. Just because a business or building is closed doesn't mean their parking structure is open to the public. Did someone get a clearance? Celebrate America! (With Fireworks!)

Last year it was not an issue to park. I went this year to ask permission to shoot on the balcony of the building and was turned down. So it will be a crash party, sort of

I may be a few moments late unless work lets us out early. I will have my boys with me also since the wife is working that night.

    July 2

I think we are going to make it!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
