August Monthly Meeting

  • Aug 5, 2014 · 7:00 PM
  • Flaming Chicken Studios

NOTE: Please make an effort to arrive before the start of the meeting at 7pm.

This meeting is designed to help you get a feel for what we are doing around the area and where you might like to put your participation. We go over the groups last month, and the coming month's schedule, review the assignment (with very mild commentary), work towards having a few quick educational segments, and then we break up for people to meet with other like minded people. During that time you can seek out leaders, event facilitators, other camera owners, and talk until you are ready to go, or we have to kick you out.

Upcoming Meeting Details:

• Review of Meetups during July

• Assignment Review

• Member Spotlight - Mark Levine

Would you like to submit YOUR images to the group?  Contact Adam for more details.

• Main Presentation:   Our very own Chris Ballance will demonstrate batch image processing using Lightroom.  Scott Stallings will also show us how to perform a tethered capture and RAW conversion using Capture One Pro.

Print Exchange - Bring a print, take a print.  Size doesn't matter in this case.  It's a great way to get your work seen by others, and trade with someone to add to your art collection.  It's free to participate.

• Assignment Due:  "GROWING"

Please submit your best interpretation of what "GROWING" means to you.  Avoid submitting archived photos if at all possible.  Get out and shoot some fresh material for this assignment.

Please verify and validate your RSVP. If you cannot attend it helps us tremendously to know that. Our space requires setup and if you are not going to be there, or you are going to be there, it helps save us from additional chaos incurred.

Very interesting presentation, Scott, about that Capture One! Amazing capabilities it has! Although to me it was like showing me a Ferrari - beautiful but can only dream of having it. Nevertheless, time well spent...

I appreciate the challenge that Chris and Scott have of trying to provide new and challenging information to tech savvy photographers while not leaving the rest of us in the dirt. Although a few details were beyond my current needs, I found value from the presentations and feel I understood many of the pros and cons of Lightroom and Capture One.

Thank you Darla. Because of what you said, I went into the system again and paid. Then I realized that because it was my first meeting that I didn't have to pay. : -0

Suzanne, I got one email receipt from Amazon Payments and one email receipt from Meetup after I paid online.

  • Suzanne

I paid and it say that there were problems, but it looks like it went through. Do we get a receipt?

How do you pay the $5.00? At the door? What does the money go toward? Kitty fund? It seems like things are geared toward the "member". Do you have to be a member? That's it, no more questions...for now

    • Stephen C.

You can pay the $5 online right now. I'm not sure if you can pay at the door. You don't have to be a member. I have no idea where the money goes, but they have a lot of successful events and guest photographers so I would imagine it is for that. I'm relatively new myself.

Hello all. My name is Ed Cheek. I just joined the group. I am a long time photography hobbyist. I do not know many other people who enjoy photography as I do and looked online for a group in the Charlotte area and found this one. I am very excited and want to be an active member and make new friends to enjoy the hobby with. I shoot both digital and film. I enjoy shooting vintage cameras and instant film. I even shoot super 8 movie film. I hope there are some other people in the group that enjoy film. I hope to meet you soon. Feel free to communicate with me at [masked]

Yes we have filmistas (which I am) and instantographers (of which I am not yet one, but those we have are hard core).

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
