User Interface Design with Sketch

  • Apr 21, 2014 · 6:30 PM
  • Myjive (at NC Music Factory)

Adam Howell joins us to talk about Sketch's unique offerings, why it has such a bright future ahead of it, and where it can fit into you and your team's current workflow.

Adam started his design career not by learning how to use Photoshop – like a normal person – but by learning how to use, what was then, Macromedia Fireworks 2. Unlike Photoshop, Fireworks was built with the web and interface design in mind from the very beginning, and that always appealed to him.

Over the years he stuck with Fireworks through thick and thin. But then, last year, Adobe announced the inevitable – they were killing off Fireworks. And he was now left with a gaping hole in his design workflow.

Enter Sketch.

Like Fireworks, Sketch is a vector graphics app that's been built from the ground up with web and interface design in mind. Also, like Fireworks, it has its strengths and its weaknesses. And, even though Photoshop and Illustrator will most likely always have a prominent place in our workflows, Sketch has enough unique offerings to earn its place right alongside those stalwarts.

Sketch 3 just released and is only $50. I had a hard time finding it until someone posted the direct link:

Looking forward to seeing this! Even though I bought Sketch, I still haven't been able to divorce myself from Photoshop.
