I try and do these types of emails a couple of times a year just to let everybody know some of the nifty things that are going on in Charlotte and close by. 2014 is going to be a pretty amazing year. Here's what's going on so far:
BlendConf - September 11-13 in Charlotte, NC
A large, locally grown conference that's going into it's second year this year. It sold out last year with 350 attendees. This year attendees are expected to reach 500. Jeffery Zeldman (Designing with Web Standards, An Event Apart, A List Apart, etc) and Jennifer Pahlka (The White House / Code for America) will be two of the keynote speakers. Other notable speakers will be Chris Coyier, Allison House, Eric Meyer, Sarah Parmenter, Val Head, Greg Hoy, Aaron Gustafson, Whitney Hess, Marc Boulton, and Scott Hanselman are a few of the 60+ speakers.
Early bird tickets are expected to sell out this week. Use CLTUX to save 10% when you register.
World IA Day - Saturday, Feb. 15th in Charlotte, NC
Charlotte has been selected as a 2014 host city for World IA Day. This is a free event and a full day of panel discussions, lightning talks, and sessions revolving around information architecture have been planned. The event will be held at the Wells Fargo Auditorium from 8am - 5pm. Since it's a free event I expect tickets will go quickly. Register before it sells out.
If you're interested in speaking, fill out the CFP.
Code for America / Charlotte Chapter - Thursday, Feb 20th
If you didn't know, now you do. Charlotte was chosen as one of the 2014 Code for America cities. If you're interested in being involved and doing a little bit of civic minded design then go attend the launch event on the 20th. There has been phenomenal support from the City of Charlotte so far and all-in-all it's shaping up to be an amazing year in Charlotte.
App Making Workshop - February 22-23 in Charlotte, NC
Jeremy Olson, Apple Design Award winner, and his team at Tapity have put together a workshop to teach how to design and market successful apps. Get a ticket before the early bird discount expires on Feb 12.
ConvergeSE - May 1-3 in Columbia, SC
Converge is one of the longest standing events that I'm aware of. It's a fantastic conference just down the road that's expanded to 7 tracks covering design, gaming, front-end, makers, ux, development, and marketing. It's absolutely worth attending.
GiantConf - June 11-14 in Charleston, NC
This event is being organized by a couple of former members of our meetup group. They'll have 76 speakers chatting up user experience over 4 days. Needless to say it's going to be ginormous. They've been extremely kind and supplied our a group a discount code. Use CLTUX when you register.
I think this is about all that I'm aware of. There's there's an incredible amount of things going on in Charlotte, even more so in the region. It's turning out to be an exciting year.
