Let's meet for a casual, take-out picnic lunch Uptown... then visit the "America I Am" exhibit at the Harvey B. Gantt Center -- a not to be missed traveling exhibit that is making it's last tour stop in Charlotte.
Think gorgeous, fall afternoon... We will begin gathering at 11:30 am at the outdoor tables, under the trees, in front of the Mint Museum at 500 S. Tryon St. Charlotte, NC 28202. I've scoped out several restaurants within 3 blocks of the museum that have good vegetarian/vegan take-out options -- mexican, sushi, pizza/salads, veggie burgers, sandwiches... I'll post a restaurant suggestion list in comments, and can also give directions when we meet.
We can eat lunch at the tables, or, settle down at the Park on the Green across the street.
After our leisurely lunch, with relaxed time for socializing, we will head over to the Gantt Center. If there are at least 10 of us going to the museum together, our admission price will be discounted to $8.00 (instead of the normal $12 for adults).
The Gantt Center presents "America I AM: The African American Imprint," which celebrates nearly 500 years of African American contributions to the United States. This touring exhibition runs through January 1, 2013. The Gantt Center is the only African-American cultural institution to host this exhibition and serves as the last venue to house it in the Southeast as the exhibit makes its final tour.
PARKING: The street parking meters are FREE on Saturdays. Closest light rail stops are Stonewall or 3rd St/Convention Center. Parking Garage at Duke Energy, next to Mint Museum, is $5 max.
FYI: Early Voting... if you are a Mecklenburg County resident, and are interested in "multi-tasking" on our Meetup day, there will be two early voting sites open from 10 am - 5 pm Uptown on Saturday at the Hal Marshall Annex & Main Branch Library. Info below:
