Charlotte Zen Meditation Society Meetup

  • June 22, 2014 · 6:45 PM
  • Harmony House

You are welcome to join us in the Zendo at Harmony House at 6:45 PM for Seated Meditation, Walking Meditation, and reading & discussion of the teachings of the Buddha. Also, it is fine to attend only part of the session if that is your preference.

To all newcomers - We look forward to meeting as many of you as possible at our next Sunday evening sitting! For newcomers, the beginner orientation is from 6:45 PM to 7:30 PM. Also, newcomers are encouraged to have a look at the following video: Introduction to Zen Meditation, The Still Point on You Tube for lots of good information about Soto Zen. This is a great time to join the group as we have just begun reading from a new Dharma book,  "Opening the Hand of Thought" by Kosho Uchiyama published by Wisdom Publications. The book is translated and edited by Tom Wright, Jisho Warner and Shokaku Okumura.

If you are new to the group we'd greatly appreciate if you would take the newcomer poll after attending. We use this feedback to improve the group.

This Sunday evening's schedule is:

6:45 PM - Doors open.

6:50 PM - Be seated and prepare for first Seated Meditation (Zazen)

7:00 - 7:30 - Bell rings to begin first Seated Meditation

7:30 - 7:40 - Walking Meditation (Kinhin)

7:40 - 8:10 - Second Seated Meditation (Zazen)

8:10 - 8:20 - Break

8:20 - 9:00 - Dharma Reading, reflection and discussion of "Opening the Hand of Thought" by Kosho Uchiyama.

Lots of stuff going on so I will miss the next two weeks, but will be there in spirit... I'll be in Philly this week for business and I'll be @ the Great Wolf lodge next Sunday and Monday night for a birthday party.

    See everyone soon.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
