Charlotte Zen Meditation Society Meetup

  • August 17, 2014 · 6:45 PM
  • Harmony House

You are welcome to join us in the Zendo at Harmony House at 6:45 PM for Seated Meditation, Walking Meditation, and reading & discussion of the teachings of the Buddha. Also, it is fine to attend only part of the session if that is your preference.

To all newcomers - We look forward to meeting as many of you as possible at our next Sunday evening sitting! For newcomers, the beginner orientation is from 6:45 PM to 7:30 PM. Also, newcomers are encouraged to have a look at the following video: Introduction to Zen Meditation, The Still Point on You Tube for lots of good information about Soto Zen. This is a great time to join the group as we have just begun reading from a new Dharma book,  "You Have to Say Something," Manifesting Zen Insight by Dainin Katagiri Roshi. Edited by Steve Hagen and published by Shambhala Publications. Dainin Katagiri Roshi (1928 - 1990) studied at Komazawa University and trained at Eiheiji Monastery. After moving to the United States in the 1960's he eventually became the first abbot of the Minnesota Zen Center in 1972 where among others he trained and  ordained the Rev. Teijo Munnich.  The inspiration of his practice and his death in 1990 played an instrumental role in the founding of the Charlotte Zen Meditation Society in 1990. Please join us in studying and putting into practice his teachings. Gassho

Can anyone please tell me if the harmony house is wheelchair accessible?

Hi Dan, Harmony House is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible. The house is an old residential home and we practice on the third floor in a converted attic. There are three sets of stairs to go from ground level to the third floor. There may be a couple of alternatives for you other than our group. There is a Charlotte Mindfulness group that meets at Myers Park Baptist Church on Sunday mornings and you could contact them to see if their meeting room is wheelchair accessible. They can be found at www.charlottemindfulness.org.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
