Exciting new announcement: Please read below !!!!

We are very pleased to announce that the Rev. Teijo Munnich, the abbess of Great Tree Zen Temple in Alexander, N.C., will be joining us on Sunday night Aug 19th. Starting at 7:00 p.m. Teijosan will lead us in a 1/2 hour sitting followed by a lecture on the Genjokoan. This is a wonderful and rare opportunity to practice with a teacher. So, please invite your friends and bring all of your questions about the Genjokoan or about zazen practice in general.

Please go to to read more about the Rev. Teijo Munnich and the Great Tree Zen Temple.

We thank you in advance for your ongoing support and we deeply appreciate any support that you may extend to Great Tree Zen Temple. As always your presence and practice in the Zendo are always appreciated.

You are welcome to join us in the Zendo at Harmony House at 6:45 PM for Seated Meditation, Walking Meditation, and reading & discussion of the teachings of the Buddha.

To all newcomers - We look forward to meeting as many of you as possible at our next Sunday evening sitting! If this will be your first visit with us please arrive at Harmony House by 6:30 for a quick run-through of the details of the Soto Zen style of meditation. Also, newcomers are encouraged to have a look at the following two links for lots of good information regarding Soto Zen ...

This is a great time to join the group as we have just begun reading from a new Dharma book,  Realizing Genjokoan, "The Key to Dogen's Shobogenzo" by Shohaku Okumura published by Wisdom Publications. Dogenzenji is the 13th century founder of the Soto school of Zen Buddhism. We are excited to begin study of Shohaku Okumura's commentaries on this most important text.

This Sunday evening's schedule is:

6:30 PM - Doors Open (Please come for 6:30 orientation if this will be your first time sitting with us)

6:50 PM - Be seated and prepare for first Seated Meditation (Zazen)

7:00 - 7:30 - Bell rings to begin first Seated Meditation

7:30 - 7:40 - Walking Meditation (Kinhin)

7:40 - 8:10 - Second Seated Meditation (Zazen)

Great Sangha! Enjoyed hearing Rev. Teijo Munnich discuss "The Novice: A Story of True Love, Unified Buddhist Church, 2011" She discussed how she has been inspired by Thích Nhất Hạnh and her visit to Plum Village. Wonderful discussion.
