Phone Gap

Topic: Phone Gap

PhoneGap is an open source platform which encapsulates and exposes a mobile phone's native features (GPS, Phone, Compass) through a JavaScript API. The beauty of this library is that it allows application development on on multiple mobile platforms without requiring in-depth knowlege of platform-specific languages and IDEs (java, objective c, c#, etc).

This session will provide an introduction to development with PhoneGap using only HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript. In addition, the session will demonstrate the use of the cloud-based build service PhoneGapBuild, which creates installation packages for a single application on multiple mobile platforms.

Speaker: Kurt Merkle is a software consultant and architect with nearly 20 years of experience in application modeling and development in industries including process and discrete manufacturing, finanacial services, warehousing & distribution, non-profits, construction and engineering. Originally educated in mechanical engineering with extensive experience in the power generation industry, he conceptualizes IT systems as "logical machinery" though unconstrained by physical limitations.
