Who's Up For A Challenge ?
Let's head to the Gahuti !

Hike Distance: 8.2 miles
Rating: Moderate to difficult
Distance from Chattanooga: roughly 1 hour
Fees/Costs: $5 parking fee per vehicle if you don't have a Georgia State Park Pass
Items to Bring: PLENTY of water and snacks/lunch. This hike will burn some calories, so please be sure to bring some replenishment. Hiking boots/shoes strongly recommended. Trekking poles are optional; if you have them, you'll want to bring them.
Hike Leader: Barbara

This hike can be a challenging hike, and is NOT for the beginner.
There are numerous up and down climbs. We are not looking to rush the hike, though, and plan to take rest breaks as needed, so don't shy away if you like to hike. You'll miss some great views if you do. We're more about having a good time out in the environment. Definitely be sure to bring PLENTY of water, though.
The Gahuti Trail that we will be hiking is a very well marked 8.2 mile trail overlooking the Cohutta Wilderness. There are also a few flowing creeks that you will see, though you will not have to get wet crossing them. There are some foot bridges that you will utilize to cross them.
NO SHOWS: As with all Meetup's, please be polite -- if you are a YES RSVP, please show up. If you can't make it, change your YES to a NO as soon as possible. Don't be a "no-show!"
WEATHER: As with all outdoor events, if it's raining/stormy or very poor trail conditions, we may have to cancel. If the weather is questionable, check this event page before you take off for Fort Mountain State Park!

Those interested in CARPOOLING from Chattanooga:
Please meet at the Costco in Ringgold, GA (100 Cobb Pkwy Ringgold, Georgia) no later than 8:45am. It is right by the interstate, so easy to find. Park in the area nearest the entrance to the parking lot, furthest from the doors. The group will need to depart by 8:55 am. If you are not at the carpool by that time, you will be responsible for getting to Fort Mountain State Park on your own.
For those carpooling, PLEASE be courteous and respectful to those that drive by contributing to the cost of gas to your driver.

Barbara, you were great leader. Thanks for getting us the ride. I found out my health had not fully recovered. Till next time:)

Hope everyone enjoyed the hike as much as I did. Great group. As Carl mentioned, it was a challenging hike, but a beautiful day for a hike in the mountains. Happy trails to all!

Very challenging hike indeed! While not as steep as Disney Trail, it was far longer, with downs that were as tough on the toes as ups were on the legs! Plus very rocky and tree roots everywhere. Nevertheless, very nice weather and scenery, and great people with whom to hike, as usual. Pics coming soon.

Barbara, can you clarify where we will be meeting within the park? By clicking on "Map" above, there's a particular spot identified which does not appear to be near either the trailhead or parking. Are we going to meet by the trailhead that is identified on the PDF map at this web address?:

I 'd like to carpool please. My car is tired and needs a rest. Happy to kick in for gas!

Are we planning to do that little 1 mile extra piece to the overlook after the main trail?
