This will be a hike with some beautiful views. You will begin walking alongside a river with a multitude of large boulders. The water should be flowing heavily, and will be an awesome site in and of itself.

You will pass by an old mining cave, and continue along until you come to a split. The group will then proceed to the left toward Buzzard Point. There will be an old metal bridge to cross to get over the river. You will then proceed via some switchbacks on an upward climb of approximately 800 feet. The terrain is not difficult, but it does climb. There are minimal rocks and roots.
Once on top, the group will check out the incredible view from Buzzard's Point. This is always a favorite, so be sure to bring your cameras. While descending back down the mountain, you will be able to see a glimpse of the view of Laurel Falls from the other side as well. The Laurel Falls segment will be a hike for another day, though.

Those interested in Carpooling:
Meet at the Walmart in Soddy Daisy at 8am.
The group will need to leave no later than 8:10am.
Please arrive at the carpool early. Once everyone is there, everyone can divide into the least amount of vehicles necessary for the trip, and then head to the meeting location in Dayton. There will not be an organizer at the carpool, but anyone that arrives at the carpool can divvy up into cars from there.
Please be sure to share in the expense of gas with the drivers.
DIRECTIONS:
Buzzard's Point is located in the Laurel-Snow Pocket Wilderness located north of Dayton, TN. It is accessible via Highway 27/29. Heading north turn left, onto Walnut Grove Road north of Dayton (new Eckerd Drug on corner). Proceed 3/4 of a mile to Back Valley Road (pass La-Z-Boy factory) and turn left. On Back Valley Road, proceed 0.7 miles to an unmarked gravel road/Richland Creek Road (small white church on the left) and turn right. Proceed about 1 mile to the parking area at the end of Richland Creek Road.
No-Shows: As with all Meetup's, please be polite -- if you are a YES RSVP, please show up. If you can't make it, please change your YES to a NO as soon as possible. Please don't be a "no-show!"
As a group, we are fortunate that most of our members are very respectful in this way, and we thank you and appreciate you for that.
WEATHER: As with all outdoor events, if it's raining/stormy or very poor trail conditions, we may have to cancel. If the weather is questionable, please check this event page before you leave home.
Please make every effort to arrive early or on time
so that you do not hold up the group.
Loved this trail! Absolutely beautiful especially with the extra water the recent rains brought to the creek. I want to go back soon to see Laurel and Snow Falls. My hiking companions were wonderful-new and old.
