CRAVEN'S HOUSE HIKE
On Lookout Mountain
DATE: Sunday February 2nd
MEETING LOCATION: Craven's House
TRIP LEADER: Tim
PETS: Friendly leashed pets are welcome
Meet up with Tim and the group at Cravens House. You'll hike from Cravens house to Sunset Rock, then take a little time to relax, enjoy the view, and take some pictures. After a short break, you'll head over to Point Point Park, and then back again. The hike should be about 4 miles total.
History abounds in Chattanooga, and some of it right at the start of this hike. Robert Cravens built the first blast furnace in Chattanooga. His home, which is currently the only remaining Civil War era structure on the mountain, was used as a headquarters by both armies during the Civil War. During the Battle of Lookout Mountain, the house was almostnearly leveled, but Cravens rebuilt it in the style of the original in 1866.
