Pay It Forward -- Volunteer Opportunity

COME HIKE AND HELP BUILD A NEW TRAIL

at

CLOUDLAND CANYON

We're the ones hiking them, so let's go build one.

Imagine how proud you'd feel hiking on a trail with some folks, see their enjoyment (and your own), and be able to know that you helped build that trail.

We've heard people talk about "PAYING IT FORWARD" to benefit others.

Let this be our way of paying it forward to the generations of hikers to come.

NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED

DATE: Saturday April 12th

TIME: 8:45am EASTERN

DISTANCE: we will hike approximately 2 miles

DIFFICULTY: moderate

MEETING PLACE: Main Office Visitor Center at Cloudland Canyon

EVENT LEADER: Greg Foster

Hiking

We will hike in approximately a mile before we begin our trail building, and then hike out the same distance.  So, not only will we get to give back to our community by creating a new trail that we can later say we helped build, but we will also get in a little hiking.  Be sure to wear appropriate hiking footwear.  The "Can't Hardly" hike-only trail is one of the newest trails at Cloudland Canyon, and is part of the new Cloudland Connector System.

Trail Building

We are going to be working on actually building a trail.  We helped with part of this trail last year, and the park is hoping to get it finished soon.  The trail's official name is Can't Hardly Trail.... because you can't hardly get to it other than by foot.  All ages and abilities welcome.

Some tools will be provided, but feel free to bring loppers or pruning sheers if you like.

Parking Fees are waived and will be FREE to all volunteers

FREE t-shirt to all first-time volunteers at the park

Trail Maintainers Rock!!

Great exercise, and have fun doing it !

Feel free to bring water, snacks, sturdy shoes, and work gloves(if you have them... if not, the park will provide them).

Those interested are more than welcome to stick around the park afterward

to check out some of the sights and trails.

NO-SHOWS: Please rsvp with integrity, and only sign up if you have all intentions of committing to being there.  The park will be planning the work day based on how many commit to being there, so please don't change your rsvp at the last minute or be a "no-show!"

FANTASTIC! Wonderful group of folks who are passionate about giving something back to Mother Earth and the trails to be used for generations to come. Everyone was positive, excited, enthusiastic and worked hard! Rhonda announced to everyone that CHM had adopted this trail to take care of! Here is to our CCSP partner Chattanooga Hiking Meetup! Y'All ROCK! Lastly.... THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! G

Nice people, nice weather and really nice little trail. Can now appreciate the time and effort needed to build these trails. A 10-12 mile backcountry trail must take many thousands of hours.

I think you hit the nail on the head with your comment about now being able to appreciate the time and effort that goes into building the trails that we hike on. That's why I think that it's so important that we try to do our part in helping when we can. It really is amazing what can be accomplished when you have a group of people working together, too.

What a perfectly beautiful day, and such a great bunch of folks. Everyone did a fantastic job. We had a great time working with the Friends of Cloudland Canyon. They are an awesome bunch to work with. They teach us and encourage us, and even make us laugh. Thanks to all for coming out. Be proud of YOUR trail. Trail Maintainers Rock!

That would be wise, should you want to eat lunch. :-) We will be a mile back in woods, and should be out by 2:00 ish.

Rhonda, my friend wants to come but he has his two kids ages 6 and 9. They are very outdoorsy and can probsbly pitch in enthusiastically for an hour then with less enthusiasm for another hour. Then we'll take off and go fishing, if that's ok. Let me know. Thanks!

Very Interesting. A group of students came from Iowa to work on this trail. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151961510330770.1073741843.173369590769&type=1

Good Morning fellow "Give Back" Adventurers!! So happy to see we are going to have a good turnout on Saturday to help the Friends of Cloudland Canyon State Park with new construction of the 'Can't Hardly' Trail! I hiked the trail yesterday and the approach trail. It is Beautiful out there and wild flowers are everywhere! This Trail, upon completion, will most likely be the Premier Hiking Trail in the 61+ Mile CCSP Trail System! Look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday Morning!! Thanks Rhonda for you kind reminder note about this project! Very Much Appreciated!! On a final note, please keep in mind that helping on occasion to Build and Maintain Trails is without any doubt, THE MOST IMPORTANT THING A DEVOTED HIKER CAN DO!!! Without this Volunteer Effort, There would be no trails to hike!! :-)
    Happy Trails!
    Greg

What kind of time frame are we looking at for this event?

    March 11, 2014

    • Rhonda

We anticipate the day's events ending by 3 ... this includes the 2 miles of hiking in and out, and the trail building.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
