Chickamauga Battlefield Park
DATE: Sunday April 27th
HIKE DISTANCE: 5 miles
MEETING LOCATION: Visitor's Center lower parking lot
TRIP LEADER: Wayne

This is a 5 mile trail passing a series of 7 memorials throughout the battlefield. This hike is for all skill levels, and would be a great hike for beginners looking to get started, or folks looking to get active again after winter. The monuments along this trail are markers where Commanding Generals from both sides of the battle were mortally wounded on the battlefield. As part of the hike, we will stop briefly at the monuments to briefly discuss some of the history associated with each of the Generals and their role in the overall Battle. This will provide a chance to take a brief breather, while at the same time learn some history.
The terrain for this hike is relatively easy with a few small hills. Dogs are permitted, but must remain on a leash and be controlled at all times.
Bring water and snacks/small lunch. We will take a brief break along the way.
From Interstate 75: At Exit 350 take Battlefield Parkway (Georgia 2) west to Fort Oglethorpe. Turn left at the intersection of Battlefield Parkway and Lafayette Road. Go one mile on Lafayette Road to the park entrance and visitor center.
