Experienced Backpacking Trip

                      Backpacking Trip to Raven's Point

DATE:   Saturday April 19th through Sunday April 20th

TIME:    3pm eastern

MILES:   approximately 10 miles

DIFFICULTY:     Strenuous

TRIP LEADER:   Park Greer

                                 STRENUOUS  EVENT

Join Park Greer for a strenuous backpacking event.  The group will meet in the Grundy Forest parking lot mid afternoon on Saturday.  Once everyone is ready to go, the group will proceed down into the Fiery Gizzard as they make their way along the 10 mile loop hike.   The first 5.5 miles will take the group along a very strenuous trail as they make their way to Raven's Point.  Some parts are rocky and others are steep.  There will be a section of the hike that is like rock hopping on boulders, and this goes on for about 2 miles.  A good sense of balance is extremely important.  This hike can be difficult even for an experienced hiker, even when not carrying a full backpack, so please be sure that if you rsvp for this trip, that you are confident in your abilities and experience to do it.  Both experience with difficult hikes, and with backpacking, are essential for this event.  One should be an intermediate backpacker to consider this event.

Once the group reaches the Raven't Point campground, everyone will set up camp, then prepare for a great evening of fun before returning to the trailhead the next morning via the Dog Hole Trail.

You will need to provide all of your own gear, food, and water

Unfortunately I have to drop off from the trip this weekend. I have a friend in the final stages of cancer and his health is quickly deterioriating this week. I'll catch the next trip there!

Hey Park, just want to make sure this Meetup is still ago since there's only 3 of us? Two of us are hiking Stone Door in the morning then headed your way to backpack. We both have dogs too.

Yes! There is Anderson Falls just a short walk (around 1/4 mile) down the trail where water can be gathered.
