Hike and Picnic

There are many hiking trails in this park along with picnic tables. Stop at visitor center and pick up map. Drive to Gate 2 and park. We will meet there. We can hike and then drive to Gate 4 to picnic.

Thanks, Sue! I was a little overwhelmed by a potluck picnic preceded by a hike! :)

I'm interested in hiking. Please tell me more about how you envision the vegan picnic part. I'm out of my element there. :-/
And regarding David's comment, are we going to be able to really move, or will it be so crowded we'll be jammed up with others? I've never been there, and am really more a strider than a stroller. ;-)

We don't necessarily have to bring food to share this time, just pack what you would normally eat for lunch and bring it. There are picnic tables that are near the parking spots, so you could just leave your food in the car while you hike.

    Hello K8,

Don't get me wrong, it's not like going to a mosh pit. ; ). just plenty of people go on the weekend, and while you can get some hiking done, you do have to dodge around strollers and such on the main trails. Gate 2 to gate 4 is on the backside of the park area and will likely be less travelled, and the trails back there are not the easy 1 and 2s so that should cut down on the traffic a good bit. there are two picnic areas on the side of the park proposed. the biggest drawback I see there is all the restrooms are a good distance away from the picnic areas over there. (see the map).

if you fancy a good challenging stride I recommend Hawks ridge trail, near where the picnic areas in question. Boulder point is undergoing some maintenance right now, but it is also a good one.

This is a great place to nature walk, I go here everyday.
Map can be downloaded and printed here: http://www.hamiltontn.gov/esnp/

Introverts (raises hand) Be aware that Saturday and Sunday are very busy with lots of people with children in tow and many dogs, so "Shields Up!" lol
