Summer Work Day

  • Jun 23, 2013 · 9:00 AM

The[masked] season has ended, but it is time to start planning for the[masked] year, which will be Cheltenham's 60th Anniversary.

Volunteers are the lifeblood of any organization, and this Sunday, I would like to gather our forces for next year. I would particularly like to encourage people to take on on the following tasks:

1. Refreshments. Rita has been doing the lion's share of the work getting our food together for the last few years, and she has decided to step away from this duty for next year. It does require coming a little early and staying a little late, as well as picking up a few extra items for the club from the grocery store, but it can be easily managed if several people divide the duties.

2. Programming. We need to find a handful of speakers every year and to plan a couple of Members Nights. Carolyn, Ellie and Rachel have been doing this the last couple of years, but we need someone new to lead this committee. The current members are happy to help, but they feel that fresh ideas are needed. The leader would work from a list of suggested and available programs and also create some new ideas.

3. Outings. Three out of the four people who were in charge of the outings last season either moved or left the club, so our momentum on this front lagged as the year went on. Ideally, we would shoot as a group at least once a month, with a extended field trip a couple of times a year. Jean needs a team to scout and lead the outings, and since there are so many groups doing photo outings these days, we can also coordinate with those other groups.

We are also looking for people to create and manage a social networking presence and to recruit new members.

Please make time in your schedule to come on Sunday - the more the merrier. It is Cheltenham's 60th anniversary, and we want to make it a special year. Special projects will include:

Sponsoring local schools to compete in the PSA Youth Showcase, a national photography contest and exhibition.

An exchange with the Cheltenham Camera Club from the UK, who will be commencing the celebration of their 150th year.

A new logo and clothing line.

A photo book celebrating our 60th anniversary.

With your help, and only with your help, can we take this club to the next level. Please make every effort to come out Sunday morning. Thanks!

Sorry I could not be there but I would be willing to participate as part of the team to scout and lead outings. Please let me know if I can be of assistance.
