Devops/Chef Night

For our Christmas special it's Upayavira's turn to speak. He's multi-talented, so last month we voted and decided he should talk about Devops and he's risen to the challenge. He says, "During this meetup we will look at the topic of 'devops', and look at a popular tool in the devops world, OpsCode Chef. This will be a hands on session, light on slides but with plenty of demos of real code. If you want to understand how to integrate operations into your development process, and how to automate the deployment of your servers, this is the talk for you."

We'll be back at DeepSpaceWorks so a £3 donation would be gratefully received. As it's December we could brave a pub for a christmas drink after the talk, if you fancy.

Looking forward to it.

I'm primarily a .net dev so the score is more indicative of the usefulness to me of Chef. However it's been good to attend a non .net group for a change of perspective. :)

You can use Chef to build windows servers too!

Superbly presented. Though I don't work in the IT industry, I really enjoyed the insight into this methodology and now appreciate its significance. The demo part of the presentation was well paced and provided a worthwhile overview. While it digressed into some details, the demo never became bogged down. Upayavira, please consider publishing the same demo on YouTube as a screen-capture video session with your spoken narrative. Many thanks Upayavira and Tom for another worthwhile evening.

Sorry to have missed it and your watch Hamish, I was hoping to get a good look at that. Maybe next time, I assume you keep it on your wrist ;)

I'm looking at street view as I've not been before, but I can't tell which building is number 11. Is there a carpark and signs from the road or is it hidden behind some buildings?

There is a car park the other side of the A40 (sign for a school + parking?). The building is on the right hand side just before the hill really starts to fall away (seem to remember it has a sign on the door even if not immediately obvious)
