The Jersey Paddler's PaddleSport 2013 - ROAD TRIP

A Road Trip to PaddleSport 2013!

The Jersey Paddler's annual PaddleSport Show is the ultimate place to find out what is happening in the kayak world for the 2013 season.  We will meet around 7:00 AM at a yet to be determined location to carpool to the show.  Driving up and back with a few hours at the show eats up the better part of the day.  I can take 3 with me and will be looking for other drivers to volunteer depending on how many people want to go.  The Garden State Exhibit Center is about 175 miles from downtown Baltimore.  Car poolers should expect to help the driver cover the cost of gas for the trip.  For this trip I'd suggest  a minimum of $10.00 per person depending on gas prices at the time and the fuel economy of the vehicle.

Here's the details from The Jersey Paddler

Mark your calendars for The Jersey Paddler's Paddlesport Show - the largest canoe, kayak and standup paddling show on the East Coast. The show features manufacturers of kayaks, canoes, accessories, sportswear, paddling clubs professional instruction and expeditions, as well as lectures and video and slide shows of paddling trips, expeditions and paddling techniques.

Paddlesport hosts over 100 exhibitors including the top names in canoes, kayaks and SUPs, such as Hobie, Ocean Kayak, Epic Kayaks, Perception, Wilderness Systems, Wave Sport, Mad River Canoe, Old Town, Surftech and much more! Also attending will be many outdoor gear and clothing manufacturers such as NRS - Paddlesport show sponsor, Kokatat, Keen, Vibram FiveFingers, just to name a few.

Throughout the weekend, see and learn about paddling and gear from top industry experts at a variety of informative and entertaining seminars and pool demonstrations and a film festival on Friday evening. From novice to expert, whether you attend to learn or to buy, don't miss the chance to take advantage of professional advice and great show pricing.

The Garden State Exhibit Center, in Somerset, NJ is a 70,000 square foot expo center, making Paddlesport the biggest show on the East Coast. It is conveniently located off of I-287 Exit 10, a 45-minute drive from Manhattan, one hour from Center City Philadelphia, and within easy reach of the Garden State Parkway and the New Jersey Turnpike.

    What boat, What boat??

Well for now let's just say that a renowned British kayak company introduced a new boat last year that defied their long standing tried and true tradition of British Kayak design. Their marketing materials on the boat almost seemed like they were embarrassed to admit that they were built it with apologetic overtones. It has since become their best selling boat. It was love the first time I viewed it's picture and to actually get to touch, sit in and caress one was well .......... I don't want to get you too excited because it's not a done deal yet.

It was a pretty good show this year. Not much in the way of new or innovative but just enough. Jane got herself a beautiful and extremely light Werner Paddle and I made some new as well as reinforced some old business connections. Perhaps best of all, I think you'll see Fearless Leader in a really cool new boat this year. The deal isn't done yet but I'm pretty sure it's going to happen.

Just got back. Almost 200 miles. Left about 9, got there just after opening. Spent almost 5 hours there, saw everything I wanted to, and sampled a couple of the seminars. Everything excepts boats is 15% off. Most (all?) mfgs are discounting craft 10-12%. NRS has everything 20% off plus they have 2 small racks of discontinued stuff at 40% off. I snagged a great farmer Jane with relief zip (!) for $80. I would hit them first if you want a clearance item - spray jackets and wetsuits, primarily. Have fun!

I'm pretty sure we can accommodate you Jane. I'll be working out car pool options by mid week and let everyone know once I see who is really going.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
