Yakin' Bout Kayakin' with CKA

Yakin' Bout Kayakin'

with CKA!

The first Thursday of each month we will be hosting an evening out to get together and talk about kayaking, equipment, possible trips ideas, or anything else we want to "yak" about!

Please join us at the Second Chance Saloon in Columbia, Maryland.  Thursdays are Happy Hour Prices all day at the Second Chance Saloon. It will be the perfect chance for us to talk and get to know each other better, or catch up with some old friends.  It is also a perfect time to talk about kayaking.  Sit down with experienced kayaks and newbies alike, to learn more about each other and the sport we all love so much.

To get directions or to find out more about the location, please visit their website at http://http://2ndchancesaloon.com/ and learn about the Second Chance Saloon:  Columbia's Home of 100 Beers.  But don't worry, they have other drinks too... maybe even some rum for the mermaid!  Hope to see you there!

If you don't want your spouse or ex to know where you're going to be, just show up... but RSVP's are appreciated.

I'm not sure if we've even met yet, but I do like opera (unlike my wife). I never go though. Even though you're north of Baltimore and I'm near Aspen Hill / Rockville, if you ever need someone to go with or whatever, please let me know.

Oh I really hate to miss this crazy discussion...sounds like fun and a real challenge. But I chose to start a painting of Verdi for the 200 year celebration of the tons of opers he wrote..for the opera table at the flower mart - and I fear I must play with it a bit more tonight...really a dumb thing to start. It is not his birthday but his 200 year celebration.. and Rigaletto is playing at the Lyric this month. Not sure if any kayakers are opera buffs though. sherry

A different status than President of United States, isn't it?

And of course it might be amusing to hear the two legal eagles involved hear argue their respective cases.

Yes, I figured you were playing the role you play exceedingly well, somewhere between ice breaker and provocateur :-) While engaging in that worthy exercise, let's consider May 2nd to have been an important date in many other arenas as well: Dr. Spock's birthday; Lou Gehrig's 2130 consecutive game streak, Nelson Mandela's victory in the 1st South African election, Jack Benny's 1st radio broadcast, birth date of Tyrone Power, birthdate of Catherine the Great, etc. That should provide discussion material for a wide variety of interests. We could also Yak about Kayakin :-)

elias boundinot was president of the Continaltal Congress 1782 - 1783 and it is his birthday...

Indeed, you are correct, and the actual title of the position was "President of the United States, in Congress, Assembled." Depending on how you count them, there were between 8 and 10 Presidents elected for one-year terms under the Articles of Confederation, but if you just count individuals who were elected and served under the Articles, Boudinot was #2. (Thomas McKean was already President of the Continental Congress when the Articles were passed; Samuel Huntigton was elected, but did not serve.) #1 was John Hanson, who was recognized as the first President of the United States by no less than George Washington.

And, BTW, in case having a room full of fun-lovin' CKAer's is not reason enough to celebrate, it is worth mentioning that May 2 is the 273rd birthday of Elias Boudinot, the second President of the United States. (It's true. As Yogi Berra used to say, "You can look it up.") I think that fact alone should be good for a couple of rounds.

Hopefully the weather is nice as I have arranged for us to be outdoors on the patio. Might want to bring a jacket in case it gets cool
