Paddle the Baltimore Inner Harbor

Paddle the Baltimore Inner Harbor

(RSVP's for this event open Tuesday April 16th at 9:00 PM)

We will be on the water at 10:30 AM from Canton Waterfront Park in Baltimore's Inner Harbor.  Please plan to arrive with plenty of time to have your boat and gear ready to launch promptly at 10:30 AM.  Pull up to the boat ramp, drop off your boat and gear and then park in the lot a couple hundred yards away.

This should be a fun and interesting paddle in the Inner Harbor.  We will cross from the park to Fort McHenry and then navigate the edges of the harbor in a clockwise direction for a total of around 6 or 7 miles before returning to the park.  The stark urban industrial setting of the Baltimore Harbor is an extremely different and very intersting change from most of the other places we paddle.

Pack a snack for a rest stop on the water and consider joining the group for lunch at Nacho Mamas or one of the other great restaurants in Canton after the paddle.  We should be back to the take out around 2:00 PM.

The water in the harbor is 58.5 (04/16) degrees today and this paddle isn't for another 1.5 weeks so I think the water should be warm enough to not require cold water gear.  If Mother Nature doesn't cooperate I'll have to change that but I don't think it will be necessary.

There are rental kayaks which include a paddle and PFD available for this paddle at the weekend rate of $50.00.  To reserve one just answer the kayak rental questions when you RSVP.  The first couple of renters on the waiting list for this paddle will get moved to the attending list.

Another fun CKA paddle! It was neat to see the industrial and commercial side of B'more from the water. Great looks! Thanks for organizing this Chuck.

Had a WONDERFUL experience! Thanks for going easy on this newbie with the sloooow SOT. Hope I didn't hold y'all back too much. Kimmie is a great sweeper :)

It was great paddling together with you. And stop being so hard on our friend Bonnie. She did a great job and not only kept up but was at the front of the pack sometimes too. And yes, Kimmie is the master sweeper but, did she tell you she is also a master on the SOT. You have to see her in action to appreciate it. Check out pictures from last year. :-)

This is so different from the quiet river type paddle, but love the scenery of the harbor. Great to see everyone on the water. Thanks Chuck.

We had a beautiful day for the Inner Harbor. I think it's one of the most fun and interesting paddles we do. Unfortunately less than half my pictures turned out for some unknown reason but other wise it was a great day. Thanks for coming everyone.

I'm new to this whole Meet Up page. I'd love to join the paddle. I have my own sit on top kayak and PDF. Do I just show up?

I apologize for taking your time. I tried this first unsuccessfully, though I just figured out how. It takes 2 steps. I went to the home page (http://www.meetup.com/Chesapeake-Kayak-Adventures/) and found this trip. There WAS a green button that said "I'm attending" with a check mark. Clicking that button makes the whole button go away, but it still says "I'm attending"! I was stumped at first until I realized that now there was a green corner box that says "YOUR RSVP - YES". NOW one can click this "second green button" to change it to NO. I just did. I'm sorry it took me so long to figure this out. Others may have the same "problem" the first time.

FYI - when I originally signed up for this trip I had the same problem in not seeing how to change it to NO. So I immediately sent a message. You immediately sent an email back saying you had changed the status to "not going" for me. I don't know why today I showed up as going again.

I inadvertently signed up for this - I am NOT going.

    April 25, 2013

    • Chuck

Lou - I like to say that if you can find the time and make the effort to sign up, even inadvertently, you can find the time and make the effort to change your RSVP to no. Look in the green box at the upper right corner of this page and click on the words "CHANGE RSVP". Then just click on not attending or whatever it is. Sorry to make an example out of you but it will help many figure out how to do it. With 800 members I really can't be doing it for you even though it is technically possible.

We are not required to wear cold weather gear, correct?

    April 25, 2013

    • Chuck

Annie - That is correct. As of noon today the water temp at the Inner Harbor is 60.8 degrees and I expect it to go up by as much as 2 degrees by Saturday. While there is no one temperature at which the water suddenly becomes safe the rest of the weather and water conditions mean it is safe without cold water gear. You probably still want to bring a light jacket just in case.

Chuck, Regrettably I am going to have to cancel. Getting another cortisone shot in my elbow tomorrow and don't want to push my luck. I was looking forward to doing this one, maybe next time.

oops - I didn't mean to sign up for this one. I can't make it. Please take me off. I'm trying to get on the Annapolis trip. SORRY.

    April 16, 2013

    • Chuck

Lou - Just go to the top of the page and click on "Change My RSVP" in the green box. Then click on not going or whatever it says.

Paddled the IH twice last year and loved it. Highly recommend this one to anyone that hasn't done it yet, but caution is advised to remain with the pack since inattentive boaters might not see a solo kayaker.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
