The Wednesday Night Paddler (TWNP) Daniels

  • Jun 19, 2013 · 6:00 PM
  • Patapsco River - Daniels Dam

The actual attendance limit for this paddle is 30 paddlers.  6 spots have been set aside for people who will be renting kayaks.  If you are a renter on the waiting list I will move you to the attending list.   Those spots not filled by renters 24 hours before the paddle will be filled with members on the waiting list who have paid the voluntary dues.  Everyone has the same chance to sign up for the first 24 slots.

Our  now world famous regular Wednesday Night Paddles have begun for the season. On Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at 6:00 PM we will be back at Daniels Dam on the Patapsco River.  The time is the "on the water time".  Please plan to arrive early enough to have your boat and gear ready to paddle promptly at 6:00 PM.  We DO NOT wait for people on Wednesday Nights because of limited daylight hours.

We'll be returning to the Patapsco River at Daniels Dam for the 7th TWNP of the season and then switching to various other locations mostly in Howard County, MD or nearby every Wednesday Night through early October.  Sunset on April 3th, 2013 will be around 7:30 PM which should give us the time to get up stream to the swimming hole for a few minutes of socialization before heading back to Daniels.

The Wednesday Night Paddler (TWNP) is a chance for everyone to paddle off the work day stress while working on paddling technique and staying in shape.  Of course it becomes quite a social event too.  TWNP is an opportunity for everyone regardless of boat type or skill level to paddle in the safety and camaraderie of a group as long as you have access to a boat, PFD and paddle.  I'll post more details as we get closer to April.

There will be rental kayaks (including a paddle and PFD) available for this paddle at the Wednesday Night price of $25.00.  If you require one please indicate that by answering the rental question when you RSVP.

Did anyone else hear young Camerons statement when his father asked Chuck at the mid-point about using a tow rope? I beleive it went something like - What do you need THAT for? What a hoot, you go young man!

Thank you all for your kindness. My oldest boy commented on how good the group was and felt right at home. My youngest boy didn't stop talking about the fun he had all the way home. Thanks Chuck and Kimmie for the special consideration. I hope we didn't impede or impose. See you all soon!

I agree with Steve. It was great to watch Cameron get up the end part. I also enjoyed spending time with Zachary. You have 2 great boys. We all enjoyed sharing our love of kayaking with the next generation of adventure lovers!

Jason, your boys were a pleasure to have on the trip. They demonstrated a real pleasure for being outdoors. Not all may have noticed, but those that did got a big smile from your youngest boys drive to make it to the final destination - at any cost. Thanks for sharing them with us.

Had a great time, it was a good workout for me.
I have never paddled through fast moving water created by large rocks.
It was nice chatting with other members and enjoyed the snacks they brought.
FearlessLeader, thanks for setting up these Wednesday paddles!

Made other plans as I assumed that I would not be attending when nothing came through by mid afternoon.

Me plus 2 Chuck if that's possible. I need two rentals and a smallish pfd for my younger boy. IIRC you have some youth ones?

so how does the wait list work? i met a woman, laurie, at whole foods and she had a kayak atop her car so i asked where she kayaks in MD. she told me about this group and encouraged me to join but i didn't ask a lot of questions ---

A lot of people will RSVP real early and then have to cancel. If enough people cancel you will get moved from wait-list to attending. Six people from the wait-list will be added to the final tally sometime shortly before the event. Those six will consist of people requesting rentals first and then if not enough rentals I think it's in order of getting on the wait-list.

Probably more concisely put than I could have done it myself Jason. You're both on as renters! :) I might add that for the weekend paddles I try to do it a lot more than the day before which is usually the case for Wednesday nights.

Larry and I are planning to bicycle before the paddle. Yoshi. may join. Anyone else?

Unfortunately I won't be able to make it, my schedule has changed with my kids.

I'd like to reserve a kayak, pfd and a paddle for a friend to attend. I'll bring my own boat for me.
