The Wednesday Night Paddler (TWNP) Browns Bridge

The actual attendance limit for this paddle is 30 paddlers.  6 spots have been set aside for people who will be renting kayaks.  If you are a renter on the waiting list I will move you to the attending list.   Those spots not filled by renters 24 hours before the paddle will be filled with members on the waiting list who have paid the voluntary dues.  Everyone has the same chance to sign up for the first 24 slots.

Our  now world famous regular Wednesday Night Paddles have begun for the season.  This paddle is on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at 6:00 PM.  The time is the "on the water time".  Please plan to arrive early enough to have your boat and gear ready to paddle promptly at 6:00 PM.  We DO NOT wait for people on Wednesday Nights.

This Wednesday night paddle  will find us at the Bowns Bridge Recrreation Area on Rocky Gorge Reservoir.  We will be heading UPSTREAM on the Patuxent from Browns Bridge.  Rocky Gorge Reservoir is owned by the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC).  To paddle here you need to purchase a $6.00 day use permit or a $70.00 season permit. With over 13 miles of water between Triadelphia and Rocky Gorge Reservoirs and 7 different kayak launch sites we'll visit the WSSC properties often during the season and I suspect regular paddlers in the area will find that the season pass will pay for itself quickly.  You can purchse day or season permits on line and print them out at home.  Look under hot topiics at the WSSC website located here http://www.wsscwater.com/home/jsp/home.faces

The Wednesday Night Paddler (TWNP) is a chance for everyone to paddle off the work day stress while working on paddling technique and staying in shape.  Of course it becomes quite a social event too.  TWNP is an opportunity for everyone regardless of boat type or skill level to paddle in the safety and camaraderie of a group as long as you have access to a boat, PFD and paddle.

There will be rental kayaks (including a paddle and PFD) available for this paddle at the Wednesday Night price of $25.00.  If you require one please indicate that by answering the rental question when you RSVP.

    Loved it!
Kudos to Chuck for the great kayak and to Chuck and Kimmie who helped me get INTO it and to Alex and Laura and Kimmie who helped me get out of it and to Kimmie and Lee who paddled beside me and gave me great instructions on how to maneuver the boat and improve my strokes and things. It was a terrific adventure with the absolute most enjoyable company I'veever met! I'm inspired to practice more before joining them on another short paddle soon. Upstream, the mist looked romantic. Downstream, the mist took on an eeriness.....almost heard the beginning of the theme of Jaws. Saw several great herons. Just beautiful. Bless you for such wonderful opportunities as this! Karen

It appears the once again the forecast is correct and we currently have sunny blue skies out near the reservoir. It is supposed to stay that way with ZERO chance of rain until about 7:00 PM when there is a 30% chance of isolated thunder showers. Even if that 30% chance becomes reality, as they are ISOLATED T/S, odds are they won't be happening where we are or across the entire area. I spend more time every day studying, interpreting and worrying about the weather than most people do working. It isn't just chance or happenstance or even my highly effective anti rain dances that usually keep us from getting poured on. It's the simple fact the forecast becomes incredibly accurate when you're only looking a few hours in advance. Quit worrying and get to the put in in time to be ready to launch by 6:00 PM sharp.

I see blue sky in Columbia too

Hang in there everyone. I know that right now the weather isn't looking the greatest for today but the forecast says it IS supposed to get better by the time we will be on the water. I will be keeping track of the weather for you so you don't have to worry about it and post something here around 3:00 PM. Currently I still expect that to be a 70% chance of sunny blue skies. No I'm not delusional and those who have paddled with me for years would tell you that I am almost always correct about the way I interpret the forecast. Hang in there with me. The only decision you can make by looking out the window right now is a bad one.

My boats still on my rack from Sunday because it was absolutely pouring by the time I got home from the BBQ lunch after our paddle. Pulled up in the car port. Been fairly close to home so since I was planning on today decided to leave it up. Thanks Chuck

Hope he can swim - LOL - has never been in deeper than the tub for baths & stands up in that. poodles are water retrievers tho, & Super smart, so he'll either hafta figure it out or stay put onboard. ;-)
