3rd Annual Christmas Eve North Pole Moonlight Paddle

  • Dec 24, 2013 · 11:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Join us Christmas Eve for CKA's 3rd Annual Christmas Eve North Pole Moonlight Paddle!

For he third year in a row Santa has agreed to let us launch from the beach near his workshop.  I guarantee that launching from there with the moon and Northern Lights shimmering above is an experience you're sure to never forget.  This is a paddle that no one wants to miss.  Check out the pictures from last years paddle like the one to the right if you don't believe me.

We'll be on the water from the North Pole at 11:30 PM on Tuesday, December 24, 2012.  Please plan to arrive with plenty of time to get your boat and gear ready to launch promptly at 11:30 PM.  This is a truly rare situation where no wetsuit or other appropriate cold water paddling attire is required.  The heartfelt warmth of the members of this group is all we'll need to protect us from the cold.

The leadership team of CKA and I want to take this opportunity to wish all 1098 of you (as I write this) a joyous holiday season with this very special paddle.  It is a paddle that truly all of us can attend regardless of skill or the type of boat we do or don't yet own.  Here's wishing that all of you discover great joy in the new year learning to improve your paddling skills, discovering new places to paddle and meeting new friends to paddle with.  Thanks to all of you for the joy your overwhelming positive response to CKA has brought to us.

If you can't actually join us at the North Pole on Christmas Eve, RSVP YES anyway to let us know that you'll be there with us in spirit.  With a little luck we'll have at all 1098+ members attending this one.  Happy Holidays Everyone!

This was the best Christmas Eve North Pole Moonlight Paddle. But what makes it so special are the people who were with us in spirit to wish happiness and joy and Happy Everything to all our CKA friends! Now it is time to look forward to 2014! 2014 will be my year, and I have a shirt that says so! Hope to see many of you on the river or a hike soon!

I did see some kayakers 12/26 on the Shenandoah River near Harper's Ferry (might have been the Potomac, can't remember which bridge I saw them from) looked awfully cold from the warm toast auto I was in ...

RSVPing in Spirit as suggested new to the group and not been on an outing with you yet (considered the Boat Parade but decided against it based on the forecast). So as a new member a little bit of an outsider on the joke? a lot of photo-shopping of pics? Have fun ...

    • Julie

Hi Jay - you are actually as in on the "joke" as we all are; let your imagination run wild and you'll fit in perfectly.

This is a unique opportunity folks. It's the only freezing-ass cold paddle that I sanction without thermal protection! Grog and friendship will suffice!

I will be bringing Bella - she has serious reindeer envy and I have seen her running in the yard wearing a clown nose while pretending to be Rudolph.

  • Jon D.

Will cold water gear be required?

    1 · December 14, 2013

    • h

based on last year....i would say no. not sure what physical (or mystical) properties are in play (see chuck in speedo and 2012 pictures), but water temperature is relatively comfortable with slightly cooler air temps. a light green or red (or red and green) top tailored with tinsel seems to do the trick. do remember your PFD, however.

      December 15, 2013

  • Matt A.

Whoa! 55 people already? Alright, I'm in too but I'm only bringing enough hot soup for twenty of you.

Me and my elf on the shelf decided to spend the night. We will be in the 3rd igloo on the left. Stop in for a hot chocolate. *<l;)
