Antietam Creek Paddle with Shuttle 14 miles

Antietam Creek with Shuttle

RSVP's for this event open Wednesday April 16 at 10:00 PM

The Antietam is moving water but it isn't really whitewater until the water levels get higher but there are a couple trickier spots even at lower levels.  This will be an all day trip of about 14 miles with a stop somewhere along the way for lunch.

We will meet at the take out promptly at 10:00 AM to load boats on the trailer and set shuttle to the put in off Route 68.  Parking at the take out is along the road and the shuttle goal is to leave as many boats as possible.  Pull in to the circular drive at the river access, load your boat on the trailer and if you aren't needed to drive passengers up, go park your car.

Pack a lunch for a stop somewhere along the way, perhaps at Two Goose Island if we're hungry early.  We should be back to the take out around 4:00-ish.  Longer boats are not recommended for this trip.

Rental kayaks along with a paddle and PFD are available for this paddle at the weekend price of $55.00.  To reserve a rental kayak (with paddle and PFD) for this event simply answer the rental question when you RSVP

What a beautiful day! The water was high and running fast. Lots of challenging spots. At times it felt like I was on an amusement park ride. Plus I got a refreshing wake-up dunking to start the day ;). And the scenery on drive up was well worth the trip. Thanks Chuck and Kimmie for another fine trip. Can we do it again please???

I loved this paddle! I was saying that all day!!!! What a wonderful day. I am so happy that I am finally well enough to do this paddle. It was one of the two rivers I learned to paddle on when I was a teenager!

Sorry for late notice Chuck. Was ready to open my season but discovered a major electrical problem on my motorcycle that an electrician is fixing tomorrow morning.

I just found a friend who has a kayak to lend me and wants to come. Can he come? He has a kayak and is an experienced kayaker.

We set attendance limits on all of our trips for safety and logistics reasons. It is why it is important that you show up if you hold a spot on the attending list. Otherwise you prevented someone else from attending. It seems simple enough to add one more person but this paddle is already overbooked and I have to draw the line somewhere. Sorry. If you don't need the rental boat, please let me know as soon as possible. Thanks

So since I don't have a kayak, do I just show up at the meeting spot - canal rd in Sharpsburg? Is a kayak already reserved for me? I live in Frederick, MD. Anyone carpooling from there? Will help with gas otherwise I'll just drive. No kayaks left to rent from club right?

    April 25, 2014

    • Chuck

Hey Jennifer - You reserved a kayak when you RSVP'ed so yes one will be waiting for you. The club has plenty of kayaks but this trip is overbooked as far as people already.

Can I get the organizer's phone number in case I might need to cancel so no one is waiting?

    April 25, 2014

    • Chuck

I just sent out the DETAILS letter which I send before every paddle. It includes my phone number and all of the details you need to know for tomorrow

    Hiya,
I am looking for a ride from anywhere in the D.C. area? I live in Georgetown and could take public transport, bike or taxi to meet you. Would be happy to pay for the fuel. Please let me know.

Do I need a plastic boat for this paddle? I have a fiberglass boat.

    April 17, 2014

    • Chuck

You really do need a plastic boat for this one Rosemary. There will be lots and lots of rocks that will be impossible to miss. It just so happens that I know where you can get a plastic boat for the day. :)

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
