Annapolis Christmas Lighted Boat Parade and Hike

With the end of the Wednesday Night Paddlers for the season last night it seems appropriate to start thinking about what we're going to do when it gets too cold to paddle.  Last year the Annapolis Christmas Lighted Boat Parade proved to be a pretty good time and the lights on the boats were pretty neat.

We will again this year be joining a self guided hike/walk through Annapolis sponsored by the American Volkssport Association that starts from the parking lot at the Eastpoint Shopping Center.

There are 5K and 10K (about 3 and 6 mile) options.  We will be doing the 10 K (6 Mile) option and leaving the parking lot at 1:30 PM which should allow for a somewhat leisurely pace and a stop for coffee and a little shopping before returning to the parking lot around 5:00 PM.  If you're not up for a 6 mile walk try the 3 mile and if not that, Annapolis isn't the kind of place where you should have too much trouble killing a couple hours before meeting us back at the Eastport Shopping Center at 5:00 PM.

After the hike we will walk from Eastport to the 6th Street Brigdge to watch the Annapolis Christmas Lighted Boat Parade.  After the parade we'll get in our cars and drive to a restaurant somewhere away from downtown Annapolis where it will be much easier to get tables for a larger group.  Everything about the day is optional.  Skip the hike and show up for the rest or any combination of the above that you want to put together.

Last year we tried to schedule this as a paddle followed by the lighted boat parade but it was way too cold to paddle so this year I'm going with the hike idea from the start.  If it turns out to be unseasonably warm we can always make it a paddle from Truxton Park instead of a hike.

Perfect day! Great company, a fun walk, spontaneous adventures, exploring new parts of Annapolis, happening onto the open house at Governor's mansion, the boat show - could not have been a better time! Thanks Chuck for organizing - great group of people.

What a blast! Bob, Daryoosh, Diana and I wandered into the open house at the Governor's mansion, got free cookies and cider, a Fort McHenry pewter Christmas tree ornament, and got to hear some great Christmas music. Then we explored the shops on Maryland Avenue and saw some of the sights at the Naval Academy before heading over to the parade, which was fantastic. My fun meter was totally pegged!

I didn't get to talk to everyone but the ones I did talk to made me want to come back again. You folks are a cool bunch.

Chuck, thanks for setting up a perfect day.

I loved walking through beautiful neighborhoods I hadn't seen before, the Christmas boats were beautiful, and the company was great. Thanks, Chuck, for a well-planned, perfect day.

Chuck, Not sure if you check this or not this late, but I can't make it. Sorry. The mind says go but the body says no.

My daughter works at Potbelly's Sandwich Works on the back of the Annapolis Mall by Noodles & Co. and they have great food, sometimes live music and can seat a lot of people. Afterwards, you can stroll the heated mall!

For those meeting at 5 at Eastport Shopping Center - are we meeting somewhere specific, like Ahh Coffee!!! ?.....or can we meet there as a rendezvous point?

Hi CKA; is anyone going to this event wanting to carpool for VA?
I would not mind driving or sharing a ride with another kayaking buddy. thanks!

Not everyone is going to show up but we will still have a good crowd. It'd be better to break into small groups, spread out, regroup afterward. Anywhere in the historic district will be busy on Saturday night. A couple of suggestions slightly away from downtown - Mexican Cafe, Carlson's Thai & Donuts, Adams Ribs, Metropolitan, Fado

Chuck, I will bring your tie downs. I may get there early for lunch since I have to be in Frederick that morning and no point going home after that, if anyone is interested. Otherwise I will bring a book.

Aww that's too bad! There has to be somewhere!

Just a heads up that we will NOT be trying to find dinner as a goup after the Lighted Boat Parade. Sorry but finding some place that would serve 80 people is rather difficult.
