I have been kayaking for about ten years, but only sporadically until the last two years. I have been sea kayaking along the coast of Maine, but most of my experience is on the Chesapeake Bay and the local creeks. I have tried whitewater kayaking, which I enjoyed, but I prefer sea kayaking and being able to take my time and enjoy nature. I have been in a couple of dicey situations, like being under the Chesapeake Bay Bridge on a Labor Day weekend with 3 foot whitecaps. When you get between the bridge pylons, it's like being in a giant washing machine. NOT my idea of fun, but I survived it. (No, it was not my bright idea to do it in the first place, I am all about safety.) One of my favorite trips last year was a paddle at Jane's Island.
I own two sea kayaks, a 16 foot Perception Avatar and a slightly longer New Design Scirocco.
I paddle because it is a great way to enjoy nature. You can go places in a kayak that most other boats can't go. I also do it for the exercise. In the summer I will often hike one day on a weekend and paddle the next, to get a full workout. If I am really ambitious, I will do both activities on one day.
I want to make new friends with people who share the same interests as I do. I am always looking to improve my skills as well.
I enjoy hiking, camping, & kayaking. I live close enough to the Bay that I can walk down the street & put my kayak in the water. Although I enjoy solitary pursuits, I also like shared experiences with like-minded people.
I have been to three different events with this group, and all of them were a lot of fun and well managed. Good group of folks to hang out with.
