A number of them depending on the type of conditions and type of boat (sea kayak vs. SOT vs. SUP etc). Never without one on the water (on me, not just in the boat or on the board).
Most of my adult life. Surf kayaking, flat water, a tiny bit of whitewater in my younger days. I am on the water every week year round (so I have a lot of cold weather gear). Been on the Potomac in just about every condition (love the small craft warning days when it is just me and the windsurfers).
My family has 16 kayaks and 4 SUPs (I have a bit of a gear addiction problem :o) The ones I use the most: Cobra Expedition (18' Sit-On-Top), Eddyline Fathom (16'6" sea kayak), Seda Glider "Sea Ski" (19' sea kayak converted to a surf ski), QCC 400X (15'3" sea kayak), Bic Sport Scapa 14.5 (14'5" fitness SOT), Cobra Wave Witch (11'6" surf SOT), Wilderness System Kaos (11'6" surf SOT) and with my wife a Seda Tango (22' Tandem sea kayak).
It's an addiction. What can I say? Probably need a 12-step program :o) In truth, I kayak for all of those reasons and probably ones I am not even conscious of. I love paddling with folks who love to paddle but I also love to sometime just be on my own to get away from it all and clear my mind and/or get a good workout (while I rock out :o).
Looking for folks who share my passion.
I am an avid kayaker/SUP paddler that goes out quite a bit by myself for fitness paddling but also 1-2 times a week with my wife (who shares my passion but to a lesser degree). On the water is where I feel most at home.
Great group. The leader's a bit questionable :o)
