Plant a Food Forest for Earth Day!

Come join us, rain or shine, for the following events at Springhill Lake Recreation Center to celebrate Earth, Trees, and Spring! FREE & Open to the Public!

Schedule of Events


12-2 PM Volunteers from the Forest Stewardship Program will assist with the installation of rain cisterns to reduce storm water runoff and retain water to be used in the future by volunteers at the Three Sisters Demonstration Garden. We will also do a planting of native shrubs that will address soil erosion and water quality concerns.

2-3:30 PM Join Greenbelt City Council to hear from volunteers working on community greening projects.

  • Three Sisters Demonstration Gardens-planting early spring vegetables & flowers
  • Greenbelt Food Forest-planting trees and shrubs
  • TapRoots and Greenbelt Middle School-talking about soil science
  • 10th Anniversary of the Forest Preserve-making squares to complete a Forest Art Quilt

3:30 PM Brian Townsend from Greenbelt Public Works and the Advisory Committee on Trees (ACT) will offer a tour of significant trees of Greenbelt.

5:15- 6 PM Magician Show Closing

Inflatables, game truck, arts and crafts, live music will be on-going from 2-5 PM.

A collaborative event organized by the following groups: CHEARS, Greenbelt Recreation, Greenbelt Public Works, the 10th Anniversary of the Forest Preserve, Taproots, and the Advisory Committee on Trees.
