Come enjoy a relaxing afternoon this Sunday at Santana row and play some chess with fellow chess lovers. The small park at Santana Row is great place with plenty of space and lots of chess tables. David will be a host for this meeting.  NOTE:  During the winter months there may be no meetup depending on the weather.  I am taking any suggestions for alternative indoor meetup locations.

Hi, I have horrible (if any) special orientation. I’m hoping chess will help me with that, and I’ve always wanted to learn to play. I’ve tried to learn via the internet and playing the computer, but that hasn’t helped at all. The internet feels too nebulous, and playing against the computer is frustrating and doesn’t teach me anything.
I was hoping to join a chess club that meets regularly. I seem do learn by doing more than anything else however, this may not be the place for me since I didn’t read very much about beginners here.
Please let me know if this isn’t a good place to learn chess for someone like me? I can take it.
If I’m in the wrong place, perhaps someone could suggest where I ought to go?
    Thanks,
    lida

Hi Lida, Sounds like you need a mentor and a good instructional book. Chess is virtually impossible to learn by playing against online opponents (who are often very much less than helpful) or the computer unless your chess program has a tutorial feature for beginners. If you come by on Sunday we can discuss it further, and I can line you up with a good book at least... :-)
