@simon, you should check out the just finished ACL 2014 (you probably did already?). vector space representation of semantics are used in a lot of papers to achieve new state-of-the-art results. In fact, this is also my current research interest. Hope that we can talk more.

Have you heard of Richard Socher (http://www.socher.org...) I have been mostly following his work in Christopher Manning's lab at Stanford, and also the work of Thomas Mikolov at google (developed word2vec). Plus anything that Hinton, Bengio or Andrew Ng publish. That conference has some promising articles.

Yes, I met Socher and Mikolov at NIPS last yr. Both have very innovative ideas to use NN related techs on NLP. For now, I m trying to spend more time training models and studying the resulting structures.

Hey everyone, it was a great meeting.

I can't attach here .pdfs of the Rodriguez et al. clustering paper that we talked about yesterday, send me an email ([masked]) if you are interested and I will email you the paper and supplementary materials directly (including an 8mb zip file with data and matlab code if you want to play with the algorithm). Simon - thanks for the link, here's another commentary

and R implementation of the algorithm:

I also mentioned a method for finding nonlinear correlations, you can learn about it on its developers' site
    http://www.exploredata.net/ .
A very interesting comment and a reference to another method is here

Sounds like we are going to have some great lightening talks from all sorts of corner of the Universe tomorrow night. If I haven't approached you and you want to introduce a topic at a very high level tomorrow night (for 5-10 minutes), please let me know and I will be sure we put you on the schedule. Thank you Cogs. This is going to be a very good meeting indeed.

    Hey All Cogs:

Please note the venue moved (Still related to Vokal but a better space for this meeting). This event is live and well. We will mostly do introductions. It would be nice if some of you could get up and do a 5-10 lightening talk on what you are working on. Volunteers? Remember, this is our first ever CHIA meeting. All who attend can say this is where it all started. There is so much going on in this area it is hard to not see it everywhere. Come share the excitement. Refreshments and some modest snacks will be served. After, we will head over to Green Door Tavern to socialize some more.

Spread the word! Invite some friends. Stop in and say hello. We are all strangers at this point.

    Welcome to CHIA!

Could we possibly have it in the suburbs or where there is no problem with parking etc.?
    Would really appreciate that!
    Thanks

So how we handled this with my other user group is we created North and now South user groups that focus on those demographics. Feel free to contact me to help you start one. However, no the mail "Loop" meeting will always be downtown.

Hey everyone, i will not make it on Wed. You can park at my school at my school at the Gleacher center for $5 buck if you go inside and get your ticket validated. any parking within a block radius of the university is for students and just walk over to the meetup.

Hey Cogs: looking for additional venue options so we can pick the best one. Any potential venue/sponsors out there? Also who wants to talk or should this remain a meet and greet?
