Last year 2013 in Thailand Paul and Yulia Tarbath, Chris Randall, Jake "The Snake" Iremonger, and I completed an 80 Kilometer bike ride, visiting two incredible places just outside of Chiang Mai: Muong On Cave and Sam Kamphaeng Hot Springs. Fruit Winter 2014 is happy to host a recreation of this bike ride on January 16th beginning at 8:30 AM.
Muong On Cave is 30 KM east of Chiang Mai and will be our first destination. It costs 20 THB to enter. Get ready to crouch as you make your way down the steep staircase before the cave opens up into a vast, soundless room filled with shrines including a 30 ft Buddha. On the way to the entrance of the cave, we will climb Naga Serpant Stairway. This is a 180 step climb with spectacular views.
After Muong On Cave we will continue another 10 KM to Sam Kamphaeng Hot Springs. This is a high-sulfur natural hot spring bubbling out of the earth at 212 degrees Farenhiet! The water winds through a man made foot bathing stream and is deposited in a large pool where we can swim. After, we can wander the gardens and take in the sights before making the 40 KM bike ride back home to Chiang Mai.
Along the way we will stop at two fruit vendors, there is also food and water for purchase at Sam Kamphaeng Hot Springs. Please pack accordingly! Bring water, food, sunscreen, a hat, tire tube, patch kit, and bike repair kit. This meet up is intended for experienced bike riders.
Don't want to ride? Please send me a personal message. If we have enough interest we can rent a van to take a group to the Caves and Hot Springs for a small fee for the rental and driver.
