Pilgrim's Hike to Doi Suthep Temple: 2 Mile, 2 hour

UPDATE as of January 19th at 9:00 pm

You can come to the Fruit House anytime after 8:30 am for breakfast but we are meeting the Song Toa's in front of Eco Resort at 9:30 am. We reserved 2 at 300 baht per Song Toa (not per person). One is stopping at Muang Mai Market at 9:40 at the Airport Hanger.
We won't be shopping, just picking up anyone who prefers to meet at Muang Mai. So- Please come prepared with food. This hike is a grueling 2 miles up the mountain so bring appropriate footwear, mosquito repellent, sunscreen, a hat, and water.
Please spread the word about these changes so we make sure everyone who wants to go knows what is going on.
Thanks everyone! See you tomorrow :)

We will meet at 10 AM at the entrance to the Zoo at the base of Doi Suthep. You can ride your bike or take a Tuktuk or songtao. If riding your bike make sure to bring a bike lock. Here is a description of the hike as posted on “cmhike.com”.

“The first phase then takes us to Wat Phalad (30 mins) where we will make a short stop (15 mins) to admire the temple and the view over Chiang Mai before embarking on the steeper pathway up to the road (5-10 mins).

After crossing the road, we will begin the final, steeper, climb up to Wat Doi Suthep itself (90+ mins) where those who are so inclined can stop for a cool drink or something more substantial at the food stalls. The hiking time to here will be approximately 2.5 hours in total. After lunch/snacks here, we will walk back down the same trail, adding up to another 1 hour walking time.

Those who wish can visit the Wat and perhaps take a songtao back down to the arboretum. Please be aware that if you have left your mode of transport at the starting point, you will then need to get back to Suthep Road, through or around Chiang Mai University.

Bring around 1.5-2 liters of water or more and snacks. Good footwear, hat, mozzie repellant, sunblock and rain gear, etc. If by chance it is raining, about to rain, or has been raining heavily overnight, the hike will be cancelled.”

If you do not want to hike you can take a songtao to the top of the mountain and meet us there between 12 and 1 pm.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
