Ever wanted to eat something other than boil-water-add-to-bag-wait-7-minutes food while out on the trail? More than just a little tired of energy bars for breakfast?

We'll be discussing how to plan, package, prepare and enjoy a wide range of healthy and delicious meals that are backpacking appropriate. We will also cover some areas of nutrition and gear selection. There may be games (maybe even prizes) but I'm not gonna say for sure. You'll have to show up to find out :).

Note that space in the meeting room is somewhat limited. It's pretty unlikely that we will have to turn anyone away, but please be aware that late arrival may not get a seat.

This is a subject I really enjoy sharing, hope to see lots of food-curious folk there!

I missed the meetup. I was out hiking in the morning and ran behind schedule. Interesting irony. Does anyone have notes or can share any resources that were mentioned during class? Thanks.

I really like that we got a lot of first-hand experience from the instructor. I learned that the trip planning is the most important part, including detailing out what your meals will be at each point. Consider everything from days out to miles covered to elevation and daily temperature when planning how to get your calorie nutrition in as space-conscious and yummy way as possible. It was nice to how her kitchen unpacked and that all of it was well seasoned.

Mary gave a very informative, well organized, and fun presentation. She clearly knows whereof she speaks and not only makes practical and creative recommendations for how plan, prepare, and deliver back country meals safely, but also has the whole class involved in developing and sharing their own ideas. I will definitely make use of what I learned.Thank you!

Can you post a course outline for people who live far away? Are you interested in a way to pack sausage, ground beef, or bacon so it will keep for at least a week without refrigeration?
