This is an Intermediate level trip. Participants should have attended a bootcamp or have sufficient backpacking experience. Contact the Organizer if you have a question regarding your readiness.

It will likely freeze overnight. Have a warm sleeping bag, a good sleeping pad, and rain gear. Sunset is before 5:30pm, a good headlamp is strongly recommended in the event we are hiking after dark.

It is deer hunting season (rifle), wear something blaze orange.

All participants are responsible for obtaining the essential equipment for the trip and having the knowledge to use the equipment (shelter, backpack, gear, etc). You should be able to carry 2-3 liters of water. Don't forget any medications, prescription eyewear, sunscreen, etc. Meals are not planned, bring your own food.

Backpacking can be a strenuous cardiovascular exercise. Participants should be in reasonably good health and physical fitness.

Organizers will do their best to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable time; however, you are ultimately responsible for your own comfort.

We practice Leave No Trace outdoor ethics ( and expect the same from all participants.

Carpools will be arranged 1-3 days before the trip.

Only group members may attend. +1 add-ons are not permitted. If you have a friend that wishes to attend, please have him or her join the group and add him/herself to the list.

Dogs, minors, or other dependents are not permitted.

Please contact the Organizer if you have any questions!

Great trip with great folks, "blazing" the trail and dodging bullets!! Glad a little rain couldn't damped our fun. Hope to see you all on the trail soon!

It's showtime folks! Looks like we'll avoid the freezing temps but contend with some rain. Watch for deer along those MI roads! Cell phone service is spotty up there, so if you can't reach me by phone, please try another person. Thanks and see you soon.

Going to REI to pick up a few things tonight. Can I get away with not buying a water filter for this trip (can I use someone else's)? Should I bring some cornbread to go with your chili, Paris?

    • Mark G.

Hi Kelly, I'll bring my gravity filter, so as long as we have a couple of backups we should be fine.
