Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument (5 days-Advanced)

Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument is the largest park in the Southwest, yet its spectacular scenery is some of the least visited. The variety of formations are astounding - colored cliffs, swirling slickrock, hardened sand dunes, and slot canyons galore.

While beautiful and fun to explore, backpacking in the Escalante Canyons requires thoughtful preparation. The hiking will range from moderate to strenuous, wading through cold creeks and across deep pools, rock scrambling, river walking, and hiking in hot temperatures.

Routes are rarely marked and will require cross country navigation skills across steep and rugged terrain.

Fly-in/out of Las Vegas, Nevada on Sat 4/26-5/3

Sat, Apr 26: Camp at Zion Ponderosa Ranch located at Twin Knolls Road near Zion National Park. (no cost)

Sun – Fri: Backpacking through Escalante (exact route TBD).

Sat, May 3: Fly home from Las Vegas

An adventure as unforgettable as it was indescribable. Never have I felt more fully immersed in wilderness as in this vast, remote, and shockingly beautiful part of Utah’s southwest. Thanks everyone for making this trip so terrific!

Sounds wonderful. Wish I could make it! I did Kanab Creek Canyon and Fish Creek Canyon about 18 months ago. Alas, I have a volunteer event on April 26th and work travel May 4th.
