Spring Picnic/BBQ at Promontory Point

Come join us for the Chicago Backpacker Spring Picnic/BBQ! The event will be located at Promontory Point Park, a great spot to enjoy the Chicago skyline with a bonfire. It's also an excellent opportunity to show off your camp culinary skills, meet new people, catch up with old friends, and share ideas for new trips.  Show up anytime, but we may not be there past 4pm.

Location: Find us at one of the bonfire circles by the field house. We will have at least two backpacks displayed.

What to bring: Bring whatever you want to cook or share. We will have a small gas grill and a cast iron skillet and will be making hot chocolate. You can use the bonfire or your camp stove for cooking. Please bring your own plates, cups, and utensils. Bring something to drink but keep in mind alcohol is prohibited by the park district.

Public Transportation from downtown:

A. Bus 6: get off at S Hyde Park and 55TH Street. Walk 0.2 mile toward the lake.

B. Metra South Shore Line: from Millennium Station,  you can get off either at Hyde Park or 57th Street.

You can also drive or bike there. Parking fees may apply in Hyde Park.

While we are not expecting cold winter weather (cross your fingers!), the event will be cancelled if a snow storm or heavy rain is expected. Please check the website the day before for any updates.

Guests are welcome and there is no fee for this event but we appreciate a $1 firewood donation.

We look forward to seeing you all!
