3 NIGHT Winter Cabin Camping - Little Presque Isle

  • Jan 18, 2013 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

This is a trip up north to Michigan's UP to spend a long weekend hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. Our fun activities will be followed by sipping hot chocolate by rustic wood burning stoves in log cabins along Harlow Lake (Lake Superior is only a short hike away!). We have reserved three cabins in Little Presque Isle (near Marquette, MI). We will leave Chicago on Friday, January 18th and leave Little Presque Isle on Monday, January 21st. "The Little Presque Isle tract is often called the crown jewel of Lake Superior, with its beautiful sand beaches, rugged shoreline cliffs, heavily timbered forests, and unmatched public views."

Cabin Fee: $40/person for all three nights (includes $5 Meetup fee) Fee is NON-REFUNDABLE and due at time of signup.

This trip is open to all backpackers; from beginners through seasoned trail veterans. Although we will not be sleeping outside in tents, it will still be very cold and you will need the gear and know-how to deal with these conditions. You will need to bring all bedding and cooking supplies/food, since the cabins are extremely rustic.

Since this is a winter trip with special safety concerns, no excessive alcohol consumption will be tolerated.

Typically, skiis and snowshoes are appropriate (and can be rented locally) for these trips.

Meal sharing is common (but not required) and we have social activities and games in the evenings.

  • We practice Leave No Trace and expect that everyone attending is also committed to these principles.
  • No add-ons. If your friend wants to attend, please ask him/her to sign up for the meetup site and join the trip through normal procedures.
  • No pets, children, or other dependents.
  • The waitlist will be governed by a strict "first come, first served" policy

This is a general overview-specific details will be deseminated to attendees closer to the trip.

Is there any possibility of adding more spots, or perhaps reserving another cabin near by? There's almost as many people on the waitlist as are going.

There's a downhill place 12 miles from the Cabin, Marquette mountain. Driving and I'll be bringing the x-country skis, but thinking of bringing with the downhill skis and doing the downhill skiing for a few hours up there too, maybe Sunday. If that jibes with anyone else, let me know, and maybe we match up for the car pool.

Andrew, Bohemia is still closed for the season. Damn global warming! One day we'll have ideal conditions.

There seems to be a lot of people interested and very few places. I would like to propose another trip with same general agenda (ski, snowshoe etc). I have 10 days off from the 22 to January 1st. and would like to go to northern Wisconsin or the UP for 4 to 5 nights.
If any one is interested let me know since there isn't much time left to plan the trip. I will also start a thread on the discussion board.[masked]

To the organizers. I am on the waiting list and despite suggesting another trip would still very much love to go to yours.

Jeff, excessive alcohol is when you become a total jerk and/or you puke all over the cabin. (Your friend was probably on a Chicago Suburban trip!)

My friend wants to know how much alcohol is excessive.

I was on one of the cabin trips a few years ago, and I brought about 2 liters of beer and a full bottle of bourbon, and there were people who brought more. There were also a couple of beer/wine runs while we were there.
