Trivia at Michael Diversey's

This Sunday marks the 33rd anniversary of John Lennon's death. It's also the birthday for Jim Morrison, Sinead O'Connor, Nicki Minaj, and Phillip Rivers. Needless to say: nothing good ever happened on December 8th. Or at least not yet. You should come out to trivia and try to win. That'd be a good thing.

For those new to the group, we usually form up two or three teams (8 person max per team), so we'll have a sign on the table(s) indicating that it's us. We're usually at the back of the bar. Trivia starts promptly at 8 o'clock so we try to get there a little early to get settled in. Trivia is usually over by 10:30.

Trivia is free; however, the bar does ask that you spend at least $5 on food and/or drink otherwise they reserve the right to charge you $5. But lets not have that happen. They've got good drink specials and really good food. You should eat something. Your mother worries about you.

Trivia at Michael Diversey's consists of 5 regular rounds with 10-12 questions each and a speed round to finish things up.

Round 1 is a picture round.

Round 2 is a general trivia round but all 10 of the answers are themed. So maybe you have the answers "Ford Bronco" and "Lincoln Logs." At that point, the theme might be car brands or U.S. Presidents. Figuring out the theme gets you 2 points and can assist you in figuring out some of the other questions.

Round 3 is typically a music round. You get ½ a point for the artist and ½ a point for the song title.

Round 4 can be anything.

Round 5 is now a round of random trivia with a two-part question at the end where you can wager up to 10 points. If you're not sure I would suggest not wagering the full 10. That can be bad. It has been bad.

You are also allowed to double one of the first 5 rounds. So if you are pretty sure about all twelve answers in a particular round, double it to get 24.

The sixth round is a speed round. It consists of one question with 30 possible answers. It could be something like "Most populous cities in the U.S." or "current members of the Chicago Blackhawks." There's really no telling until he reveals the question. At that point you've got about 4 minutes to write down as many answers as possible.

On Sunday afternoon, the M.C. will post the topics for the rounds on Facebook and clues for Round 2 on Twitter.  I'll copy and paste them in the comments section so you know what you're getting yourself in to.

They're no longer doing chosen rounds. Too many people constantly asking for the same tv shows or ridiculous stuff like bluegrass music.

We'll see you there!

I'm going to be a total hypocrite and not go to something because it's too crappy out and I'm warm and toasty in my bed. Also I have no voice from karaoke madness last night!

No categories announced but there is this little tidbit: Know your famous inventors or at least what they each invented and know current pop music. Both of those will help tonight.
