On Friday, April 5, I got an e-mail stating that Bob Martin
will be unable to speak on April 23. This was confirmed on
Monday, April 8. He refused to give a reason, but we can
all imagine reasons of a private nature that one would be
reluctant to share with strangers. We wish Mr Martin well,
and we hope that he is in no danger.
In consequence of this sudden news, our June speaker has
agreed to be our April speaker. There will still be a
meeting on April 23, and it will still be in the same place,
but the speaker will be different, and the topic will be
Cleancoders.com -- the company that originally introduced us
to Mr Martin, and that offered to sponsor the meeting with
pizza and beer -- will still be providing pizza and beer on
April 23, even though it will not be their speaker at the
meeting. They are not responsible for Mr Martin's
nonappearance, and they have no more explanation for it than
I have. They are only the messenger. Do not shoot the
messenger. They have been most gracious and coöperative,
and we are grateful to them for standing by their
sponsorship commitments, even though they now stand to gain
little from the event.
I hope that everyone who signed up to hear Mr Martin will be
equally interested in hearing Robert Douglas, whose
presentation will be announced forthwith.
