Gang of Four patterns presentation

Dave Angulo's proposal can help our group regain momentum. However, instead of committing to a series, let's start by scheduling ONE presentation on a specific topic. The Gang of Four book mixes things every programmer should be aware of with ideas that one may never encounter an opportunity for.

Dave: Can you propose a paragraph or two abstract stating some potentially useful and interesting topic for a September or October presentation? It should emphasize why every C++ programmer needs to know about it.
