What we’re about
Offering a congenial atmosphere for cave enthusiasts of all ages. Attended by members of both local cave clubs, the Windy City Grotto and Sub-Urban Chicago Grotto, which are official local posts of the National Speleological Society. (no affiliation required)
Experienced, retired, and not-yet-cavers are all welcome! Most of us do our caving outside of the city of Chicago- find out what it's like, who's going, and let's go caving!

See all- First-timers Cave Trip - Illinois CavernsIllinois Caverns, Waterloo, IL
Join us for a caving experience at Illinois Caverns in Waterloo IL, on May 11-12, 2024. This trip is suitable for either first time or experienced cavers. There are a lot of walking passages with the options for crawling and exploring. We will be tent camping at Freedom Lake Campground. On Sunday, we will visit the City Museum in St. Louis. If you have never been there before, it is like an adult playground with climbable art made from recycled items. There is an entire floor of a simulated cave that is very realistic (headlamps necessary). Please remember that all first time cavers must complete a "Caving 101" briefing first to make sure they are well prepared for this trip. See our other Meetup posts for those dates. Event cost is $20 per person to cover the camping costs and firewood. Admission to the museum is $20 and each person will pay for their own entrance ticket.
