Chicago has a strong, busy and growing modern music scene, with world class performers and composers.  I would like to facilitate meeting others with similar interests in the Chicago region---hopefully this can bring together people in this eclectic crowd and introduce those who are interested in checking it out.  The goals is to unify those who would like to explore the scene by keeping each other informed of events and having the opportunity to talk about them before or after the event.

Up for discussion as we evolve:  For purposes of defining modern/contemporary "classical" (though not technically classical) music, there are many ways to draw the line, but let's say music written in the last ~40 years which could follow any tradition, but is more rigorously composed in some relation to classical music of the past.  Let us have open minds since this is a large body of work that can be more "crossover" in nature and performed in all sorts of venues.   An event sometimes only has one new piece in the context of old music: this also qualifies as a meetup since it allows you to explore the new while looking back at the old from a modern perspective.  The old school practice of confining the best contemporary music to academic composers writing obscure, irascible works is, while part of the spectrum, no longer the core and there is a huge palette to explore.

Please share any suggestions and ideas, my general goal will to be to list all of the concerts or events that I would like to attend and bring together others.  Also I will list all the free events I can find.  For events  requiring a ticket, if the concert is not open seating, please buy individual tickets and depending on the event we can meet before,  after or at intermission.

Feel free to contribute favorite composers, good recordings, links to good videos online, links to composer websites (there are many good sites that have a lot of free music to sample) by messages to me or the group and we can all learn and enjoy together!    You can suggest concerts through the website and I will approve if appropriate.
