Glass, Adams, Ades, Turnage, Gubaidulina. Anna Clyne and Mason Bates, the two CSO Mead composers in residence have written some very interesting things. I'm curious to see where their work takes them.
I saw the New York Met simulcast performance of The Tempest by Thomas Ades. It was incredible. The musical textures and staging were very engaging and interesting. The performers seemed to fit their roles very well. At many points I felt Ades knew how to musically hit the core meaning of the characters' situations, sometimes through stark, laser-like focus on a single emotion, and at other times the well-blended combination and complexity of the desires and fears of many characters in the duets and trios.
I go every 2-3 months to something. CSO's MusicNOW series offers some really great performances.
I grew up in New Mexico and moved to Chicago in 2008. I am very glad to be in such an interesting city. There is so much to do and see and I have barely scratched the surface. I play horn in Lakeview Orchestra.
