hi, just throwing out a cool little factoid to make the screening more interesting (as if it could be any more so) Wally Westmore did the make-up for DI. He was famous for doing the Jekyll& Hyde with Fredric March. For Stanwyck he exaggerated her lips, way overdrawn to look like a sneer, used eyeliner and reshaped her eyebrows to make her look "unnatural". By the way the Westmore family was huge, father worked in silents, and 6 sons all in the biz, working on everything from Hunchback, Creature from the Black lagoon, to Wizard of Oz, etc and then their kids on XFiles and so much more...

These are cool factoids, Kristina. I know director Billy Wilder wanted Stanwyck to look as fake as possible. Do you think he succeeded?

I do, along with the bangs and the wig & the bug-looking shades she almost has an inhuman look sometimes (got to credit the acting too), brassy and fake, not the typical femme fatale for that time but she ends up being one of the defining femmes. Another cool thing about the look, Edith Head did the clothes, using extremes of ultra feminine and androgynous fashions ,and the anklet became really popular after people saw the movie.
