Talk about "Super 8" & Movie Magic Nostalgia @ Argo Tea

Hello Chicago Film Lovers!

What a great meet-up last night. Thank you new people who came, I hope to see your faces next time.

My choice for March is JJ Abram's "Super 8". This movie choice found me this time. "Super 8" is the first movie since my childhood that reminded me of why I first loved movies. As a kid, my favorite films were "ET", "Goonies", "Indiana Jones" (all 3 of the early ones) and "Back to the Future". These movies were and are movie magic to me. So I chose "Super 8" for nostalgic reasons. I feel we all have movies that we grew up with that inspired our love for film. So please join me on my nostalgic trip March 27, 7:30 PM at Argo Tea. I can't wait to hear what movies from your childhood that you consider movie magic.

Your proud to be organizer,

Rebecca

Just curious, who's going to see that movie "Spring Breakers"? I'm tempted :)

I would be interested in seeing Spring Breakers as well. Seems to be a love it/hate it type of film. Let me know if any plans come together.

Hi, I will check out metacritic. I always use imdb when I have a movie question.

Sounds like the discussion of rip offs was good. Rebecca, I suggest a movie that is not a rip off? Stanley Kubrick's "Lolita".

Great discussion about movie magic from our childhood and the movies that poorly rip them off. Not used to taking the discussion in all different directions, but it worked. Love this group!

And the second gem is a project called everything is a remix, in which a guy shows movies, music, and other types of arts that referenced great classics. This "Everything is a remix: Matrix" video is a sample of what the guy did: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrW3E6BN5Dg&feature=player_embedded
    Pretty amazing!

As we talked so much about kids and homages, I have two gems I found online. First, Henry Thomas' audition in ET (at the end you can hear Steven S. saying the kid nailed it) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0Cinb1j5-s

Hi all, I have some friends in from out of town. We are watching "Super 8" right now. It is very Close Encounters to me and never trust what the Air Force is telling you. See you next time. Penny

Missed you Penny tonight! We all talked about "Super 8" being a rip off everything else, but it lead to a good discussion about great films people have ripped off :). Hope to see you next month :)

It's "Alien" too, "War of the Worlds". I sometimes wonder about my courage and hope I could do the right thing. Penny

Anyone who actually saw the Oscar winning short "paper man" might find this funny.
